Position Overview

Joining the Solve team as the Lead, Economic Prosperity Community offers a unique opportunity to be a leading voice in the social impact and innovation space. In consultation with MIT faculty and external advisors, you will define the most pressing global challenges of our times related to economic prosperity such as accessing meaningful work, economic mobility for all, and digital inclusion. You’ll lead the recruitment of and relations with exceptional leaders from the private, public, non-profit and academic leaders whose expertise and interests align with the Economic Prosperity pillar. You’ll play a leading role in engaging Solve’s rich community and marketplace which includes Solve’s hundred member organizations -like General Motors, the Gates Foundation, UN Women, HP Inc; as well as the social entrepreneurs—Solver teams—that Solve selects and supports. You will help expand Solve’s reach and grow Solve’s funders base across multiple industries and sectors. You’ll drive resources to scale tech-enabled innovation on some of the most pressing challenges of our times such as accessing meaningful work, economic mobility for all, digital inclusion. You’ll be joining an entrepreneurial team supporting social entrepreneurs and social impact leaders globally. You’ll be part of the wider Community Team that hosts Solve’s Global Challenges around Sustainability, Health, Learning, and Economic Prosperity. We're looking for someone with a versatile understanding of the latest economic prosperity and development issues and with experience in relationship management, fundraising, and partnership building.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the strategic vision of Solve to build the premier marketplace for social impact innovation through open innovation and transformational partnerships, particularly as it comes to issues related to accessing meaningful work, economic mobility for all, and digital inclusion
  • Design annual Economic Prosperity challenges, in consultation with leadership and relevant stakeholders, including MIT faculty and cross sector leaders
  • Build catalytic partnerships with prospective organizations to amplify tech solutions to Solve’s Challenges and contribute to advancing Solve’s mission
  • Expand Solve’s links with MIT Labs, Departments, and initiatives to support Solve’s mission
  • Create, build, and manage an engaged community of diverse, cross-sector, cross-geography leaders within the Economic Prosperity pillar and Solve
  • Support Solve’s leadership team in business development, building sustainable funding sources for Solver teams, and strengthening membership model
  • Inform content of events on aspects of Economic Prosperity pillar focus areas, related to decreasing inequality, and promoting inclusive growth and job development
  • Work with other team members as needed on planning and delivering events that bring together the community physically and virtually to support the Solvers, engage the community, and advance solutions to the economic prosperity challenges
  • Manage and mentor Officer, Economic Prosperity Community
  • Manage volunteers and consultants as needed


Required Skills & Background

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience, with at least 3 years’ experience in project or program management, partnerships, relationship management, nonprofit development or fundraising
  • Some background in a related field such as economics, international development, or urban planning.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • A proactive leader who organically develops quality relationships with colleagues and partners, and expertly drives collaborations to meet our mission goals
  • Bachelor’s degree 

Beneficial Skills & Background

  • Master’s degree in an area relevant to Solve’s work
  • Experience working for an impact-driven organization
