What specific problem are you solving?
Globally, 353 million tonnes of plastic wastes are thrown away with 40% coming from packaging. In Kenya we throw away more than 2400 tons of synthetic packaging . Even when we think we are recycling and doing a good deed, the paper itself inside these products can only be reused 2-3x before the fibers are unusable and disposed of in local landfills without the consumer knowing
What is your solution?
We have developed the most ecological disposable packaging products, they are 100% Compostable. They are unique, hygienic materials and supports the humidity and heat of food. The packaging products are made from the non fruity parts of the banana stem which are wastes with natural fibers. The technology involved in the innovation is also environmental friendly, no chemical are used as well as natural energy. After extracting the banana fiber, we use the sun to dry the pulp into sheets which we fold manually into packaging products.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
The fiber is extracted from non-fruity parts of banana stems to make packaging products allowing rural small scale farmers to resale the pseudo banana stems that would otherwise be deemed wasteful; thus increasing their income. Women forms majority of the population in the rural setting who do banana farming . Majority of the employees at fibertext enterprise are women
How are you and your team well-positioned to deliver this solution?
Most of the employees have had a first hand experience about the environmental effect brought about by the manufacture of wood based and plastic packaging's. Fibertext enterprise is based in Bungoma, a region which used to be the headquarter of a pan paper factory, which brought much deforestation, iron sheets destruction due to chemicals used. The team is passionate, experienced and committed towards providing a sustainable packaging solution.

We are facing technological, market, and financial. We are looking on accessing international market for our products. Technologically we are always looking and updating our technology to fit our consumer changing habits and needs. Financially we are looking on acquiring hybrid solar which will enable us to work in all seasons.
