Solution Overview

Solution Name:

Provider app for virtual consultations

One-line solution summary:

Virtual consultation with AI enable dashboard to ensure effective NCD care during and post pandemic.

Pitch your solution.

Since many of the OPDs are shut down and patients are not able to reach the doctor due to this pandemic, iKure has developed virtual consultation platform to help initiate the communication between the patient & the doctor.

Conventional telemedicine platform uses more of manual intervention to record data. Our virtual consultation includes triggers for follow ups, medicine intake, and drug – drug interaction. This technology will improve efficacy of conventional tele-healthcare.

This application is being used by the doctors and frontline health workers with much ease as it has automated prescription module. The data collected through this platform can be viewed in AI enabled dashboard which gives a snapshot of data and assisting the providers in preemptive and preventive analysis.

Film your elevator pitch.

What specific problem are you solving?

The COVID 19 outbreak has placed unprecedented demands on our health system. There is a risk that essential health services which communities expect from the health system, would be compromised.

It has been proven that pre-existing conditions like hypertension, chronic lung diseases, diabetes, and cancer can lead to worse outcomes for those with COVID-19 . These diseases are not well addressed in most African healthcare settings. In addition to the lack of intensive care capabilities, means that morbidity and mortality rates for COVID-19 in sub-Saharan Africa will be devastating. For example, almost half of hospital admissions and about 55% of deaths in Kenya are associated with non-communicable diseases. This leaves countries like Kenya in a particularly vulnerable position when it comes to the severity of COVID-19.

iKure’s technology solution which includes modules for video-consultations, MCH, diabetes, hypertension, supply chain management, and health education is being used in India as well as Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Vietnam, and other developing countries.

Our technical solution is designed to address effective NCD care. The AI dashboard with real-time vitals and pre historic data leads to better health analysis.

What is your solution?

This is an android app for doctor, clinic receptionist, pharmacist, nurse, lab technician, and health worker where user can

  • Register patients, with location and verify their mobile number. A unique Id is generated on registration which helps in managing the demographic details of a patient.
  • Add diseases, medicines and dosages, vitals, food and exercise in prescriptions
  • Collect medical history on past diseases, doctor consultations, medications for the patients and family
  • Take key vitals including height, weight, blood pressure, SPO2, along with basic diagnostic tests
  • Initiate video consultation with patients.
  • Triggers and alerts for medications and drug- drug interactions
  • Notification on booking of services like video-consultation, clinic visit, home visit, medicines delivery by patients

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?

This Android app will be used by the doctor, clinic receptionist, pharmacist, nurse, lab technician, and health worker.

As we battle a global pandemic, we are witnessing a situation which limits people’s access to formal health setups, such as hospitals or nursing homes like never before. This is particularly problematic for those who are geographically dispersed across countries’ remote locations for various reasons. Our technology platform is implemented at the ground by front line health workers and is connected to a central hub where on-ground data is used for triggering services, troubleshooting and real time data on COVID-19 pertaining to prevention, diagnosis and treatment. The app’s dashboard will accumulate this data and help in accurately monitoring the health status of an area at a micro level.

iKure’s video consultation module is bridging the gaps of the current pure telemedicine platform where doctors are unable to collect vitals, conduct tests, or even understands the problem and most importantly they are unable to reach a very large segment of the population that is not using smartphones. By collecting quality data from the above apps and advanced prescription module we have created an integrated data system for effective health monitoring and treatment.

Explain how the problem, your solution, and your solution’s target population relate to the Challenge.

The on-going COVID-19 pandemic is likely to transform the delivery of healthcare worldwide. Patients will try to avoid visiting crowded waiting rooms, keeping them away from physician’s offices. To overcome this, there is a push to allow physicians to adopt and use virtual care technologies.

iKure’s video consultation platform provides ease to the healthcare professionals and reduces error for effective care delivery, thus ensuring health security for all. The solution is developed to maintain essential healthcare services for the patients who  need periodical health check-up.

What are your goals within the next year and within the next five years?

In the last 5 years, iKure has implemented an extensive range of digital health services, including

telemedicine projects. However, the scope of the telemedicine services in India has been limited to

pilots, as Government of India has disallowed delivery of telemedicine services. However, iKure

always had the telemedicine feature in the provider and patient applications. We have served 1 million population in 3 years.

Provide primary healthcare services to 160 million people in next 5 years with video consultation, counselling, and follow-up services

Zero mortality from lack of primary healthcare.

A. iKure will deploy its core application which consists of the following modules:

• Patient registration

• Family registration

• Medical history

• Patient vitals

• Patient diagnostics tests

• Services scheduling by HWCs

• Patient/ HWCs appointment booking

• Appointment confirmation & queuing

• Video call

• Video call notifications

•Triggers for drug drug interaction

The video comsultation  app uses SNOMED-CT, ICD, and HL7 nomenclature.

API Management

iKure has implemented a robust API management service which allows it to dynamically create public and private APIs.

Based on the data from the Telemedicine App and other identified IT Systems in Nagaland, iKure will create an interactive ‘Nagaland Health Dashboard’.

2. The dashboard provides interactive table, map, and other key data visualizations at state, district, block, panchayat, and village levels.

What barriers currently exist for you to accomplish your goals in the next year and in the next five years?

Challenges

  • Comparison on care delivery through APP and conventional methods
  • Realization of real benefits of the service
  • Before covid 19 out-break video consultation had legal challenges hence initially there was a resistance to use this application

How do you plan to overcome these barriers?

  • Post pandemic outbreak, patients are not able to visit hospitals and missing follow ups. Hence this app was widely accepted
  • Government released guideline on usage of telemedicine platform. Hence resistance form doctors reduced.
  • Increase in the patient footfall lead to increase in usage by the doctors.
  • Addition of innovative features lead to improvement in quality of the healthcare
