Thanks for your support! We've pivoted a bit to utilize this technology to produce functional plant-protein ingredients as a B2B supplier for food companies. Feel free to contact us and check out our website here: https://spirainc.com

I think this project is ripe for collaboration and can be strongly supported by Solve. That being said, how does this actually fit in the circular economy?

ER ER Elliot Roth

With our new business model, Spira displaces petroleum-derived and animal-derived ingredients in food products.

In response to The factors limiting our success:

How can Solve help with these factors?

ER ER Elliot Roth

We're currently looking for help connecting to additional farms, clients looking for natural blue colors and plant-protein, and financiers (which will help us hire for positions in food science/sales, agricultural quality and bioengineering.

In response to How we will sustain our team financially:

How many algae producers are there? What is the projected growth of this industry?

ER ER Elliot Roth

Currently there are 1000s of small-hold spirulina farmers in developing countries. As the market for plant-based protein grows, these farms will see a rise in demand yet struggle to deliver their ingredients to higher-margin countries like the US.

Spira operates as a technology-provider, broker and refiner. We take raw biomass from these farms, ensure quality and sell upcycled ingredients to clients in the US. We've seen staggering demand for our proteins and pigments.

In response to Why our solution is unique:

This is absolutely awesome! I would love to see this in practice and I think Solve and/or MIT might be a great partner for this project.

Thanks! We're using novel techniques like improvements in genetics, growing, and processing to improve the overall functionality of the end ingredients (eliminating bad flavors, enhancing stability, improving price, etc). We develop technology then partner with small-hold spirulina farmers to contract manufacture and supply larger food company clients in the United States.
