Professor, Esther and Harold E. Edgerton Career Assistant Development, MIT
Admir Masic is the Esther and Harold E. Edgerton Career Development Professor at the MIT Center for Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). Professor Masic’s work focuses on investigating the structural and mechanical properties of biological materials, including the study of aging and pathological processes. He is also interested in the degradation and preservation of cultural artifacts, historical buildings, and civil infrastructure. He will bring his groundbreaking in-situ multi-scale Raman imaging techniques to Pierce, and will construct a state of the art multi-functional research platform (combining Raman, AFM, fluorescence, and in situ mechanical testing) for the high resolution chemical and structural characterization of these materials. Previously, Professor Masic served as the Research Scientist at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Germany. He earned his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Torino, Italy.
