My name is Anne White Hat, and I come from Rosebud, South Dakota. Our family comes from my mother’s side, the Mato Ahuncika family and we’re also part of the Aske Tiospaye, in the Rosebud Reservation area. I’m a single parent, entrepreneur, and Indigenous woman transplant in New Orleans who’s been fighting the Bayou Bridge pipeline for the last year and a half. I was a community organizer in South Dakota before I moved to New Orleans 9 years ago. After a 7 year hiatus from community organizing, I answered the call to action from Standing Rock. I took my children home, stood on the frontline, and made a ton of herbal cough syrup. I was on track to forward the development of my business when I was asked to be of service as a member of the Indigenous Women’s Advisory Council of the L’eau Est La Vie Camp.
