Yetneberesh Nigussie

Senior Manager for Global Action on Disability (GLAD), International Disability Alliance

Yetneberesh Nigussie Mulla is the co-founder and the current president of the Ethiopian Lawyers with Disabilities Association (ELDA). She is also currently working as the senior manager of the Global Action on Disability (GLAD) network. GLAD is a unique platform bringing bilateral and multilateral donors, financial institutions including the World Bank, the UN agencies and foundations as well as the private sector together with a view to maximize disability inclusion in development cooperation’s and humanitarian actions.

In her early days of activism, Yetneberesh has co-founded the Ethiopian Center for Disability aand Development (ECDD) in 2005 and has served as executive director till 31 December 2015.

With a view to broaden her area of influence from national to global level, Ms. Yetnebersh has joined Light for the World, an international NGO based in Austria Vienna in 2016 and served till beginning of 2020 as the lead on advocacy and rights of persons with disabilities.

In 2019, Ms. Yetneberesh has been appointed by H.E Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia to serve as the deputy chair of the Ethiopian Reconciliation Commission 

Ms. Yetneberesh is a joint winner of the Rights Livelihood Award”, interchangeably known as: “the alternative Nobel Prize” and recognized as a young global leader 2020 by the World Economic Forum. She has also received the Spirit of Hellen Killer award 2018 and a number of other prominent awards by Ethiopian Diaspora living abroad, in recognition of her multidimensional engagement to ensure the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of life.

In her personal life, Ms. Yetneberesh is married and is a mother of 3 beautiful girls: Ahati, Zema and Sanita. She also runs a private kindergarten in Addis Ababa and spearheads the inclusion of children with disabilities from early age onwards.
