An easy to use web-based platform to bring good jobs to care workers by matching them with individuals and families needing care

The Problem

Carina is working to solve the problem of home care workers earning low total income, partially due to challenges in finding clients near them. This leads to high turnover rates and worker shortages that make it difficult for seniors and people with disabilities to find care in their communities.

The Solution

Carina offers an easy-to-use care matching platform. On Carina, individuals and families can find qualified care providers near them who have access to good wages with benefits. Carina uses technology to make the care matching process more effective, efficient, and equitable by providing good information and connections to both sides of the marketplace for good jobs and quality care. Carina works in partnership with labor unions and local governments. While Carina works to match individuals, its systemic impact is through these partnerships with organizations that can 1) advocate for care providers and their clients and/or 2) fund and operate care delivery programs and/or 3) create policies that will support care providers to access good jobs and for care seekers to access quality care.

Stats

Carina Care has 68,168 users who have used the platform to find care work or provide in-home care.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Home Care Workers: There are 2.4 million home care workers in the U.S., and home care is projected to be the fastest growing occupation over the next decade. Low-income Seniors and Persons with Disabilities and Their Families using Medicaid services: These individuals need help with self-care and other daily tasks because of physical, cognitive, developmental, and/or behavioral conditions. Nationwide 17 million people living in the community require such services. Impact: It is widely acknowledged that there is a caregiver shortage, especially in the senior care space due to the aging population. Carina helps seniors and people with disabilities find care that meets their specific needs so they can remain at home, which is often a more affordable option than living in an assisted living facility or nursing home. At the same time, we help workers access stable employment near them and support their economic security.
