Our solution's stage of development:
ResearchOur solution:
An online network for women and girls to reach out to people in their profession of interest and to advance their own careers. The network includes skill-building modules applicable to various career stages and allows members to hold discussion forums, ask me anything sessions, and organize online or virtual meetings.
Our pitch:
STEMIn Network is a professional social network that allows women and girls in various stages of their career to interact and learn from one another. Our solution is to leverage the worldwide network of women in various fields that girls and women in low socioeconomic conditions can reach out to for guidance on career or work related matters. Free and open access to skill-building modules can help girls and women hone their skills, and prepare or advance them in their professional careers. The network will serve as a space for women to share ideas, hold discussions, and work on high-impact problems in their communities and worldwide. By having a central network, this can cut through any cultural or financial hindrances that girls might face. When brought to a global scale, the STEMIn Network will provide women and girls around the world with the network, resources, and skills they need to succeed in the workforce.
The problem:
Cultural and financial challenges across the world prevent girls and women from learning skills and opportunities that would secure their futures. Many women avoid pursuing fields where they do not believe they will fit in. The lack of strong education systems prevent them from acquiring skills needed in the workforce.
Why our solution will solve the problem:
"You can't be what you can't see." Having a network of role models to look up to show women and girls the possibilities of who they can be. Our experiences have taught us that a supportive network can teach others lessons that they can emulate and adapt in their own lives.
Our target outcomes:
Women and girls in disadvantaged communities will be be able to secure jobs in the workforce. The website will be similar to a social and professional network where registration is free online and through the app store.
