Home Hospitalization Kit
Across the globe and at Sheba Medical Center, in Israel, healthcare professionals and patients are at risk of exposure to Covid-19 and subsequent infections. There is a great deal of medical care that can be done in a manner that protects the patient and the staff simultaneously.
The Home Hospitalization Kit, using medical technical tools and innovative apps, is addressing this problem by continuing to provide testing, monitoring and on-going communication for the patient with the medical team while the patient remains socially distanced at home. The result is continued treatment of the patient and a dramatic risk reduction of Covid-19 infection for all parties involved; Quarantined Covid-19 patients and the medical staff who are providing treatment, patients who do not have Covid-19 but require medical attention in a hospital setting and the remain of the population in close proximity who now no longer come in contact with Covid-19 patients.

As for today, June 17 2020, there are 8,269,774 people that are infected with Covid-19 and 445,541 deaths around the world according to the John Hopkins University - https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/ma...
Social distancing is the weapon everyone are talking about and importance of isolating people who are infected with Covid-19 is extremely important. Home Hospitalization Kit will help solving exactly this - keep the patients isolated at home while providing medical treatment as if they were admitted in the hospital.
The goal of American Friends of Sheba Medical Center-Tel HaShomer is to raise awareness and support for Sheba Medical Center in Israel. The need for Home Hospitalization Kits is urgent. We need to provide as many kits as possible, today. They will be immediately used and distributed to Covid-19 out-patients. In the future, these kits can and will be applied to other populations who are more readily treated at home. The personal kit includes the following: a tablet that enables video calls with the Medical staff, a personal wireless thermometer (works without contact), a special portable camera that allows the doctor to examine the patient's throat and mouth and a personal stethoscope that transfers the information directly to the physician and medical team.
The use of Home Hospitalization Kit keeps the patient, the healthcare professionals and non Covid-19 patients safer while helps everyone to fight this pandemic.
Sheba Medical Center was Israel's first responder to Covid-19. The immediate response by Sheba has made it possible for Israel to flatten the curve at an accelerated pace and best manage this crisis. There where multiple areas developed to tackle the problem; one of these, the Home Hospitalization Kit, allows the Covid-19 patients with mild to moderate symptoms to remain at home while being closely monitored and their condition is continuously tracked. This kit is effective and we are in immediate need for additional kits.
There are 3 layers of those who will benefit from the Home Hospitalization Kits:
The first is quarantined Covid-19 patients and the medical staff who are providing treatment.
The second is the patients who do not have Covid-19 but require medical attention in a hospital setting. They can now be kept isolated from the Covid-19 patients.
The third circle is the remained of the population in close proximity who now no longer come in contact with Covid-19 patients who are quarantined while being treated at home.
Using of the Home Hospitalization Kit at early stages and for any pandemic is the perfect match for the challenge since it help prevent and mitigate the pandemic getting worse as well as future disease outbreaks.
It also helps protect the Health Workers that are able to do their job without risk of getting infected since all communication and treatment with the patient is done from two different locations: patient's home and Health Worker office/hospital.
finally, it Improves prevention of spreading the Covid-19 by keeping the Patient quarantined at home without harming the medical followups, tests and treatments.
- Pilot: An organization deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community
- A new application of an existing technology
We are used to the fact that sick people need to go to a hospital or a clinic in order to be tested, get treatment and keep being tracked. Covid-19 proved us something we already knew - sick people are transferring the disease once they are in contact with other people, including on their way to the hospital, while being taking care of by medical staff and health workers and also while being hospitalized. Home Hospitalization Kit creates a new way of treating, following up and taking care of the patient WITHOUT endangering anyone in being infected!
It is a new innovative use of tools and ideas we already have like tablets, internet, video calls, data transferring and healthcare apps, only this time, we are using it with distance between a health care provider and a patient with an important practice of social distancing that is a crucial part of preventing the spread of any disease.
Home Hospitalization Kit is based on Communication Technology, Physical Examination Technology and Vital Signs Monitoring Technology.
All Technologies are already exist but our solution is the combination of all via on-line communication that allows the patient to stay home and the Doctor and Medical Staff at the office.
All of those are possible using the kit - measuring temperature, saturation, answering questionnaire, physical examination via video conference, blood pressure and balance monitoring.
App and communication via internet allows the Medical staff to prescribe the needed medication and to keep track of the patient condition.
The Home Hospitalization Kit is used in Sheba Medical Center in Israel to treat Covid-19 patients. allowing them to stay home and not travel for treatment and risk their environment and physicians.
The kit has also been approved by the Israeli Ministry of health and was adopted by all HMOs in Israel.
There is also an increasing interest from healthcare providers around the world in our solution.

One of the hardest problems to solve at the Covid-19 pandemic is the speed and the ease that the virus transfers from one person to another.
Sometimes people do not know they have the virus since they don't have any symptoms, but this mistake, when they meet other people, is one of the reasons for mass infection.
The second challenge is that many people who have symptoms needs to be monitored. Having those people admitted to the hospital is a danger to other patients, medical staff and general public that may be encountered on the way to the hospital.
Obviously those people need to stay quarantined but also monitored by healthcare providers.
The best solution would be if we could keep them isolated at their homes and still treat them from far away.
Home Hospitalization Kit is doing just that and allows a new way of healthcare approach, especially during pandemics.
by reducing the encounter between sick to healthy people we will be able to reduce the speed and amount of infected individuals.

We are in the process of opening a center for Telemedicine in Sheba. The Home Hospitalization Kit will be used in this center for Israeli patients. On top of this, one our goals will be to distribute and to put a lot of marketing efforts all around the world providing the technique, the support and the training for the Home Hospitalization Kit worldwide.
Since we all saw the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic has no political borders between countries, we foresee that the Home Hospitalization Kit will be a common use within few years all around the world.
There are no real barriers for our goals but there are many challenges.
For example - Regulations, Teachings, Purchasing a great number of kits, Marketing, all the needs around the control room and providing the accurate and most effective IT for all users while adjusting to the client needs.
For most of our Challenges we will need special advisors.
Regulators are vary from place to place around the world so we will need to be efficient in this variety.
As for Teaching, we will have to use our staff at first and later on to expand the teaching to instructors that will be certified by us and will be able to do it in and outside of Israel.
I.T. unit will have to be available 24/7 globally. This challenge, like teaching, will have to be solved by certified technicians wherever the Home Hospitalization Kit is operational.
In order to buy the kits we will have to find designated funds and donations.
- Hybrid of for-profit and nonprofit
We have 10 employees at Sheba medical center as well as the technical support of the companies that provide tools to the kit (around 4 more).
All in All - 14.
Our team has two nurses that have been working with telemedicine for long time; we have a pharmacists with background of regulation and business development; physicians experts with infections and pediatrics; Startup leaders and innovators and also, all Sheba's hospital team and knowledge is available to us when needed.
Datos - Telemedicine platform
Tyto - Monitoring tools (thermometer, camera)
Earlysense - sensor pulse, oxygen level and balance indication
According to our vision, the Home Hospitalization Kit will have the same impact on healthcare and medicine as the smartphone had on communication.
Our key costumers are hospitals and health organizations that will be able to treat several patients a year with each kit.
Other than the kit itself we will provide those organizations the best teaching and guidance, the technical support and medical if needed, at least at the first steps of the implementation process in each organization.
Later on, when the kit is working well and efficiently in both ends - patient and medical team - the organization (costumer) will be able to choose if to continue getting the services from us or building a support team of their own.
- Organizations (B2B)
There are two steps for the financial plan:
First step is depending on donations and grants as well as raising investment capital.
The second step will still be open to all of the above, but will add to it the selling of product and services.
We learned about SOLVE this year and we are sure that the help we can get from other professionals in areas we are less familiar with will be priceless.
Areas in which we will need help with are, for example, Regulations, Marketing, IT Recruitment and Connections with countries and states outside of Israel.
- Product/service distribution
- Talent recruitment
- Legal or regulatory matters
- Marketing, media, and exposure
Sheba Medical Center is a hospital and not a business. since we are working on a project that has a business angle to it, we would need help in areas where we never touched before. all the subjects that are listed above are of this nature and therefore will be very helpful for us.
We do not have any specific organization we would like to partner with other than MIT faculty or initiatives that can answer to our needs.
Our team is made of Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists and Startup experts that are devoting their lives to make other people's lives better.
During the Covid-19 pandemic our team geared up and made an idea that was meant to be operational in few years from now to be ready to go, A to Z within few months. Two years of preparations were supposed to be followed by few more years but thanks to the devoted team and the goal - to save lives - we made it happen and ready to go already in 2020.
The logic behind this idea, in which we believe with all our hearts, is no less than changing the world of medicine and healthcare as we know it.
Each household that is connected to the internet will be able to use our kit, no matter where it is located - whether it is by the hospital or even if it is 100 miles away from the hospital - every patient will see a doctor and a full medical team to diagnose, followup and keep tracking with the patient and treatment.
Less contact with the healthy population will reduce the danger of infections and same for the medical team who will not be needed with direct contact with the infected patient.
This innovation, Lead by our team, is taking telemedicine to another level that will save the world millions of lives over the years, not with a specific medicine, but with a new method of patient care.
