Improved and Energy Efficient Stove for Fish Smoking
Clean Stove, Energy Efficient, Fuel Efficiency, Quality Smoked Fish,FISH-SMOKING,IMPROVED-STOVES, EFFECTIVE, NO-SMOKE, PRODUCTIVE.
Nearly half the world’s population uses inefficient stoves and fuels for their daily food processing. Fish smoking is one of the most widely used traditional processing method for fish preservation. However, the smoking technologies and methods used in developing countries like Ghana are harmful, expensive and dangerous to end users thereby resulting to poor quality of fish for the market and consumption. It is estimated that about 80% of the fish harvested is traditional smoked. Fish smoking in Ghana are the major occupation of women and girls in the coastal towns hence the major source of livelihood and income generation. Moreover, the means to ensure comfortable methods for these occupation has never been appropriated hence fish smoking is one of the dangerous occupation engaged in Ghana, the existing stove used emit high amount of poisonous emissions such particulate matter (PM), polycyclic organic matter (POM) and carbon monoxide (CO) these result to health and environmental related diseases. The existing stove uses huge quantity of fuel to smoke small amount of fish and fuel used are very expensive to purchase. It requires longer time to smoke the fish hence resulting to drudge.
The proposed project is to construct an improved fish smoking stoves for some selected fishing communities in Ghana via capacity building and technology transfer. The stove has these advantages, energy efficient, less fuel consumption, no smoke and heat emissions to end users, faster and easier to use, no PAH exposure on fish, durable, profitable, reduce pollution, human and Eco-friendly. The stove when used gives an end product of quality fish for the international market because no PAH traced. The desire aim of the project is to help women and girls along the coastal belts of Ghana with affordable, durable and improved stoves that would promote the usage of clean energy production. Moreover is to prevent women from being exposed to diseases and stress associated with smoking of fish and help them access the comfort during work thus improving their income generation and standard of living.
The project would promote the usage of clean and affordable cookstoves thus energy source. This would also promote clean and conducive environment for fish smoking. The stove would help increase productivity during fish smoking resulting to quality fish for the market and hence increase income generation.
- Resilient infrastructure
- Restoring and preserving coastal ecosystems
Is an improvement of the existing technology. The existing stove used is not durable, emit high amount of heat and smoke to the environment and end user, it’s not faster, uses high amount of fuel and time consuming.
The new stove has higher thermal efficiency and complete combustion of fuels resulting to no smoke exposure to end users, even distribution of heat and faster smoking time per hour. The stove design is very simple but efficient, easy in construction and materials for manufacturing are readily available.
The solution promotes the usage of clean and affordable cookstoves thus energy source. It also ensures clean and conducive environment for fish smoking. The stove would help increase productivity during fish smoking resulting to quality fish for the market and hence increase income generation and standard of living of fish mongers.
- Prevention of the cutting down mangroves along the coastal belts for fuel.
- No smoke and heat emissions to end users hence prevention of health related disease.
- Ensure clean cooking technologies and provision of quality fish product for both the local and international market.
- Ensuring conducive and clean environment for fish smoking.
- Promote these sustainable developmental goals thus; Affordable and Clean Energy, Decent Work and Economic Growth,Good Health and Well-being of women and girls.
By partnering with the government and other cooperative fishing agencies for the promotion and usage of the stoves in all fishing communities in Ghana and other developing countries.

By establishing a company of artisans and engineers and deploying them to each community.
Two people are currently using the stove and they encouraged with the outcome by reducing fuel consumption by 90% compared to their of technology of smoking, reducing drudgery and increasing productivity and income generation by 80 to 90% over short period.
In 12 months i would like to be serving all fishing communities in the central region of Ghana
In 3 years i would like to expand my boarders to all fishing regions in Ghana and Togo.

Testing of Stoves for emissions, efficiency and performance
Engineering Skills in design and manufacturing
Construction skills
Capacity building skills
Use of laboratory Monitoring Emission System
Indoor Air Pollution Detection and Analysis Skills
I am position for long term sustainability because in Ghana alone about 10% of population depend directly on fish smoking for livelihood hence there would be a great need of the stove in each fishing communities.
Expansion is huge because most developing countries need this technology to improve their fish smoking product quality and quantity hence meeting the international markets standards for exports.
I believe solve would give me the platform to sale my idea and help most women and children in the developing countries such as Ghana.
Inability for end users to purchase the stove due to lack of finance.
