What specific problem are you solving?

The problem of medication uses, and misuse has plagued societies for decades. Thousands die and millions are hurt and injured each year. Not only is there stress and confusion about adherence which is only a small part of medication usage concerns. Consumers are worried about:

a. short- and long-term side effects and other general information.

b. The availability of lower priced alternatives or generics.

c. If and when to stop taking a medicine and the avoidance of addiction and weaning to reduce the negative effects of withdrawal.

d. Whether to discard or keep a medication for future use.

e. Reconciling medication from different doctors over time.

e. Learning the names of their medication and their purpose.

f. The use of error prone methods of filling and using dispensers and pill boxes.

g. The dependency on others to help with these chores especially persons with sight, hearing and mental challenges.

h. Gradual deterioration especially in comorbidity and memory diseases.

Professionals need to be able to remotely confirm usage or to quickly determine the effect of medication. This will aid in intervention before episodic events. These challenges and others that will lead to better healthcare for all are still to be solved. They include:

Wearable medication regimens.

Improved child proofing.

Teenage lockout.

Automatic safe dosing interval notifications to each medication.

Easy to use patient engagement tool for organizing and managing meds.

Nursing care point of use instruction for each dose for every patient.

Automatic logging of time of access

Identification of a person who accesses medication.

Automatic pill count.

Automatic weaning from potent and addictive drugs and unto safer alternatives.

Remote mental health supervision.

Remote substance abuse monitoring.

Large scale clinical reporting.

Efficiencies in Pharmacovigilance and other pharma sciences.

The aggressive testing of vaccines now and in future epidemics.

Access to real-time medication usage data at point of care and many other problems.

The general belief that the problem of medication usage is technically unsolvable because missing a time-of-day dose cannot be undone but may lead to a skipped dose, is not accurate. The instructions written on bottles to this effect will be changed for greater efficiency.

Pillboxes and dispensers depart from best practice of keeping meds where they legally belong until being consumed. These will never be viable solutions for institutional usage so continued effort down this road is not productive. The need for safe transfer of patients with their medication and high-risk situations as identified in WHO initiative "Medication Without Harm" must be addressed. How then will it be possible to help consumers navigate the usage of many medications with different schedules? Polypharmacy Management.

Each pill from idea to clinicals and manufacturer to end user may have a story, how can we tell that story and use the data for the improvement of ML, AI and digital twinning in healthcare?

What is your solution?

Multicompartment devices with an associated display that will hold medication containers in each compartment. Compartments have sensors with notifying elements of light, sound and vibratory. Container labels will be scanned or entered into the display and assigned a specific location within the device. Timing to the next dose will start and the location will alert at the end of the interval.

Biometrics will permit access and a patient or care giver will be able to pick up the container that's in a state of alert. The medication in their hands will` be instantly displayed with guidance throughout the dosing event. Guidance can be made audible with preferred language selection. The unit will also work in reverse if a medication is picked up regardless of notification. The interactive process is designed for safety.

Nothing here is geared towards forcing anyone to take a pill. Optionally a camera will record every interaction and persons are supported for safe use. Refusal to ingest a medication may be logged by a user with reasons given for that decision. A decision to be discussed with their healthcare team.

Timing is "relative time" to ensure safe dosing separation. The initial dose may be time of day. There will be numerous devices using variations of these concepts most notable in refrigerators and the prepared meals industry.

One writer analyst calls these "beyond the wow factor"

One scientist refers to these solutions as the final cascade of all the sciences.

One MIT executive judge refers to these as "a massive win for the world."

The concept of the world's 1st digital polypharmacy manager will be introduced to simplify and improve our lives for a brighter future for all.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?

Medicine like communication and transportation is a basic need for humans.

These solutions will benefit all of humanity, but the initial entrance point will be nursing homes in the USA and around the world. Directors of Senior care establishments are awaiting the availability of the med-cart using these concepts.

From the cradle onwards, medication, vaccines and many aspects of an individual's health profile will be helpful when in the control of each individual. Geonomics, is an evolving science that must be personalized with the use of technology.

How are you and your team well-positioned to deliver this solution?

Atlanta's higher education and tech schools are great environments for development of these concepts.

Each team member has an academic background that enables strategic collaborations in hardware and software development and then marketing and distribution.

Which dimension of the Challenge does your solution most closely address?
  • Ensure health-related data is collected ethically and effectively, and that AI and other insights are accurate, targeted, and actionable.
Which of the UN Sustainable Development Goals does your solution address?
  • 3. Good Health and Well-Being
  • 4. Quality Education
  • 9. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
  • 10. Reduced Inequalities
  • 11. Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • 12. Responsible Consumption and Production
  • 17. Partnerships for the Goals
What is your solution’s stage of development?
  • Prototype
Please share details about why you selected the stage above.

Proof of concept and an MVP has already been developed however the single compartment Ownum Pharos as a single container device is not what the market demands. It lacks significant features of the Digital Polypharmacy Manager.

Engineering plans are drafted with costing projections but financing in needed for execution.

Easy Mult-medication management will break through many barriers to the emergence of this science.

The feedback from persons using the single compartment Pharos is great and there is every reason to expect similar responses to the PolyPM.

Why are you applying to Solve?
