Our Solution

Promena VR - Brain Health Solutions

Our solution's stage of development:

Early

Our solution:

Promena VR, a behavioral & brain health rehearsal system enabling clinics, hospitals, governments & schools to conduct mental health outcomes customized for specific client needs. An interactive, role-play, coaching and training platform for clinicians and educators to present as any race, gender, or age, simulating real-world challenges clients are facing.

Our pitch:

The problem:

PROMENA VR solves mental health problems faster. Traditional behavioral rehearsals are slow, and role-play in a clinic is nothing like the environments an individual client must face in his or her real life. Often, the clinician or coach who is performing a “role” in these rehearsals does not look like the person for an effective role-play session. Our system increases efficacy with VR experiences and environments that accelerate optimal mental health /brain solutions faster. Our education and training platform reduces costs for hospitals, clinics and governments associated with the $ 430 Billion dollar global mental health crisis. https://vimeo.com/223267588 PW: VRTO_2017

Why our solution will solve the problem:

Operating VR Therapy since January 2015 with outstanding results. Also working with leading academic/clinical experts who have validated our VR approach.  Our theory of change supports that VR does transform a wide array of mental health treatment protocols, offering levels of efficacy and efficiency previously unattainable by any other means. In January 2017, researchers at Oxford conducted a comprehensive meta-analysis, stating, “The capability of VR to simulate reality could greatly increase access to psychological therapies, while treatment outcomes could be enhanced by the technology's ability to create new realities. VR may merit the level of attention given to neuroimaging.”

Target Outcomes

Our target outcomes:

Target outcomes are that hospitals, clinics, schools and governments now in beta test partnerships will validate PROMENA VR solutions, confirming clients' benefit with greater efficiencies and cost savings to any current treatment paradigms where interpersonal and communication deficits are being addressed.  We are the world’s first VR two-way interactive product to enhance evidence-based approaches in treatment such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for mood disorders, addictions, phobias, PTSD and Dialectical Behavior Therapy for common personality disorders. Deployment via licensing model with online distribution & education tracking system to scale, meeting North American and Global challenges to offer greatest impact.

How we will measure our progress:

  • Outcome: Pilot program is initiated and tested in at least three independent hospital and clinical settings with beta testers now underway.
Measurement Plan: Reduced treatment time combined with significant decrease in reported symptoms associated with interpersonal and communication deficits when compared to traditional approaches.
  • Outcome: Pilot systems are successfully applied in at least three to five different categories of DSM-V disorders, based on current beta testers.
Measurement Plan: HIPAA-compliant client reports generated from pilot programs.
  • Outcome: Pilot systems generate clinically significant results with diverse populations demographics.
Measurement Plan: HIPAA-compliant client reports generated from pilot programs.

The populations we will benefit initially:

  • Adolescent
  • Adult
  • Urban
  • Rural
  • Suburban

The regions we will benefit initially:

  • Europe and Central Asia
  • Middle East and North Africa
  • US and Canada
Technology

The technologies we employ:

  • Consumer-facing software (mobile applications, cloud services)
  • Digital systems (machine learning, control systems, big data)
  • Imaging and sensor technology
  • Mechanical engineering and hardware
  • Something so new it doesn’t have a name

Why our solution is unique:

Very few companies are currently providing virtual reality-based solutions for behavioral healthcare. Those few are focused primarily on the treatment of anxiety spectrum disorders, such as PTSD and specific phobias. Our system facilitates treatment across a broad range of disorders: interpersonal and communication deficits are symptoms found in everything from mood disorders to more severe personality disorder, such as Borderline Personality Disorder and addictions. These latter disorders also are among those that can be the most challenging for clinicians to treat, so our system is positioned to make the most impact in the most widespread critical areas of behavioral healthcare.

Why our solution is human-centered:

Promena VR evolved from its founder's private practice, vrtherapy.org, which has been dedicated to serving all populations using VR since January of 2015 by working with Medicaid, Medicare, and most commercial insurance plans. We have recognized that under-served populations in behavioral healthcare are often times the populations who stand to benefit the most from advances in care. Therefore, our system was built around the findings from working with these diverse populations for the last few years. Co-founders’ mission offers VR brain health solutions with the greatest social impact to the world by helping humanity evolve one person at a time.

How people will access our solution:

To be deployed by governments, hospitals and clinical settings where behavioural education and healthcare is provided. The system is built to be integrated in evidence-based approaches to behavioural healthcare where programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, and most commercial insurance plans will cover any expenses related to clinical care in North America and globally.   Our co-founders are dedicated to rolling out a scalable clinical and education digital platform that offers a solution with the world's leading clients who are now part of our beta test group. We are also working with schools to train the next generation of therapists.

Technology-Readiness Level:

4-5 (Prototyping)
Business Plan

Our organization:

For-Profit

How we will sustain our team financially:

We have beta testers involved who are paying us to prototype and test the product over the next 12 weeks. This test phase will work out pilot phase needs assessments with our top tier target market users and to ensure that we can scale services across government-funded mental health agencies, hospitals, Universities, Colleges and private clinics in our target countries.

We also have some private investment already in place and have a more detailed pitch deck to secure funding.

A fundraiser and press junket/road show is being planned for late Sept. to build visibility with more funding partners to get ready to scale globally with our North American and international research partners in place.

The factors limiting our success:

Few factors that can limit success at the moment.

  • We need cash flow. Our burn rate is high and cash flow issues must be mitigated -- which is hard to do while managing highest level of service to clients to deliver on outcomes with cross functioning teams.
  • Our beta test / paying clients have varying needs and different fiscal year ends which may cause a long wait to trigger financing.
  • High level of focus group testing required to ensure highest level of privacy, user design and interface testing is required with our trusted experts

How long we have been working on our solution:

2 years

How long it will take to develop a pilot:

3-6 months

How long it will take to scale beyond our pilot:

6-12 months

Our expected annual budget:

$750000

How much of our budget we've secured to date:

$50000
