What specific problem are you solving?
Just 22.7% of U.S. public high school students are assured a personal finance class, and just 45% have taken one, despite 68% of teenagers confessing saving for retirement is "for later". Standalone financial education requirements increased from 18% in 2019, 20 to 27% in 2023–24, yet gaps persist: too many students leave school lacking the ability to invest in the real world. Traditional paper‑trading sites bombard novices with complex order types and jargon, offering little hands‑on, low‑risk practice. Stradr bridges this divide by offering real‑time market data, user‑friendly trading interfaces, fractional shares, and classroom controls, enabling beginners to learn basic investing principles safely.
What is your solution?
We built Stradr, a browser-based trading simulator that accepts real-time market feeds from enterprise-level, quant-level APIs and renders them on an intuitive terminal. Students are given $100,000 of paper capital to purchase and sell equities, fractional shares, and international currency options, with aftermarket and timed orders supported, while our portfolio engine continuously calculates account value in real time by multiplying each position's real-time price by its size. Education‑mode accounts remove jargon and complex order types, directing students to fundamental investing concepts, and classroom dashboards allow teachers to issue challenges, monitor progress, and encourage healthy competition through leaderboards. Built on open market data feeds and contemporary web technologies, Stradr has empowered 17,000+ users from 131 countries to place $806 million in practice trades (avg. session 14 m 24 s), allowing novices to learn risk‑free and acquire financial literacy at scale.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution engages over 17,000 users, mainly high school students aged 14 - 18, college freshmen aged 18 - 22, and teachers and club advisors across 131 countries. These users are engaging in safe, real-time trading practice without jargon, while being able to build their financial confidence, critical thinking, and long-term wealth-building habits. At this scale, Stradr can reach every secondary student, 15 million in total (and 1.6 million teachers), in the U.S., and over 38 million more people worldwide. That's 40 million young people with investing principles mastered before they enter adulthood.
