What specific problem are you solving?
m2m is tackling the crisis of maternal and child mortality in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where an estimated 200,000 women die each year due to pregnancy-related complications—accounting for 68% of global maternal deaths (UNICEF, 2023). The maternal mortality ratio in SSA stands at 533 deaths per 100,000 live births, compared to just 12 in high-income countries. Neonatal mortality is also disproportionately high; a child born in the highest-mortality countries faces a 56-times greater risk of dying before the 28th day of life than one born in the lowest (WHO, 2020).
Adolescent girls, women in poverty, rural areas, and those living with conditions like HIV are most affected—underserved by health systems strained by a critical shortage of healthcare workers. The WHO estimates that over 4 million health workers are needed to meet healthcare demand in SSA (WHO, 2023).
m2m’s CHARM app addresses this by putting powerful, easy-to-use digital tools in the hands of Community Health Workers (CHWs), known as Mentor Mothers. CHARM provides AI-powered case management, behavior change nudges, digital client records, and access to training. This boosts CHW capacity, improves quality of care, and supports better health outcomes for women and children across SSA.
What is your solution?
CHARM (Community Health Access & Resource Management) is a cutting-edge mobile application
developed by m2m to empower community health workers in delivering exceptional healthcare
services. CHARM is designed to equip our Mentor Mother (community health workers) and
transform the way they deliver care. It simplifies how CHWs deliver care by combining client intake, risk assessments, case management, and learning tools—all in one place.
The app connects to m2m’s Centralized Data Management System, giving CHWs real-time data to make better decisions. It uses AI to help manage complex cases and suggest next steps. CHWs also receive behavior change nudges—small, science-based prompts—to guide healthier decisions for themselves and their clients.
CHARM includes access to a world-class learning platform so CHWs can build their skills over time. Supervisors use a web-based backend to manage teams, track performance, and coordinate across countries. With dual interfaces—mobile for CHWs and web for supervisors—CHARM enhances care delivery, learning, and collaboration across the organization.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
In SSA, infectious diseases top causes of death, with high HIV/AIDS, non communicable diseases, and unmet mental health needs. Key health system challenges are too few workers, limited budgets, and weak leadership; WHO estimates SSA needs over 4 million more health professionals. CHARM serves underserved populations in SSA—particularly pregnant women, young mothers, and adolescent girls— who face high risks due to HIV, poverty, and limited access to quality health care. These groups are often overlooked by traditional health systems and face barriers to staying in care throughout pregnancy and after childbirth. m2m’s solution addresses these challenges by equipping Mentor Mothers to manage client care more effectively through digital client intake, risk profiling, and AI-driven case management. CHARM also delivers personalized behavior change nudges and health interventions based on each client’s unique needs. CHARM supports better, consistent care across the pregnancy and postpartum period, ensuring that women and girls—especially those living in poverty, in rural areas, or with health conditions like HIV—receive the support they need to stay healthy. CHWs are empowered with ongoing learning and skill development, boosting their ability to serve their communities and creating sustainable improvements in frontline health service delivery.
