What specific problem are you solving?
Uganda's private pharmaceutical supply chain faces significant hurdles that impact healthcare delivery. One major threat is the widespread presence of counterfeit, falsified, substandard, and unregistered medications that threaten the health of both humans and animals. Up to 30% of pharmaceuticals in low-income countries are compromised, according to the WHO. In Africa, the prevalence of substandard/falsified medicines is 22.6%. The private pharma supply chain itself is fragmented and inefficient. Centralization is a major problem, with most local manufacturers, importers, and distributors located in Kampala's Central Business District. This concentration causes several challenges, limits nationwide access, and exacerbates shortages of essential medicines. Additionally, there is also a troubling trend of rampant stock issues. Wholesalers, distributors, and importers often face challenges maintaining adequate supplies of essential medications, further straining the system and leaving healthcare providers scrambling to meet human and veterinary needs. Access to quality medicines remains a critical gap. Healthcare providers need convenient, reliable ways to obtain high-quality, safe, and efficacious medications. One Order tackles this by offering a digital platform—accessible via web and Android app—that enables easy access to registered and approved medicines, diagnostics, medical devices, vaccines, supplements, and nutraceuticals.
What is your solution?
“One Order” is a digital health supply chain platform intended for local pharmaceutical manufacturers, importers, distributors, pharmacies (including wholesale and retail), hospitals, clinics, NGOs, and regulatory bodies to transform the private pharmaceutical supply chain. The platform provides significant convenience by facilitating easy access to a wide range of health products, including registered human and veterinary medicines, medical devices, diagnostics, vaccines, supplements, and nutraceuticals. Wholesale pharmacies benefit from simplified ordering processes from manufacturers, importers, and distributors handling both human and veterinary health products. Retail entities like pharmacies, hospitals, drug shops, clinics, and NGOs can efficiently place orders with wholesale pharmacies, ensuring they receive the necessary products to serve their communities effectively. One Order is particularly valuable for its role in authenticating medicines, helping to combat falsified and counterfeit medications. By enabling comprehensive traceability from the product's origin to the end user, the platform enhances safety and trust in the supply chain. In addition, One Order makes it easier to manage inventory, helping to prevent stockouts of essential medicines and reducing waste as well as procurement costs. This means better operational efficiency and a more dependable healthcare supply chain, which is a win for everyone involved.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
One Order aims to support private healthcare providers, importers, and distributors of human and veterinary medicines and, ultimately, patients throughout Uganda. This specifically encompasses drug shops, hospitals, clinics, veterinary clinics, pharmacies (wholesale and retail), and NGOs in both rural and urban areas that currently face challenges in accessing high-quality, affordable, reliable, safe, and effective medicines. The platform will greatly impact the lives of Ugandans by ensuring the availability and access to approved, authentic, affordable essential medicines, diagnostics, medical devices, vaccines, supplements, and nutraceuticals for both human and veterinary use, improving public health outcomes, and building a resilient private sector pharma supply chain system.
