What specific problem are you solving?
The specific problem we are addressing is the challenge of early identification of autism and related developmental conditions in young children. Traditional screening methods often rely on subjective evaluations that can be inconsistent and heavily dependent on the observer's expertise, leading to variability in diagnoses. Moreover, these assessments frequently face language and cultural barriers, limiting their effectiveness across diverse populations.
Globally, the prevalence of autism is 1 in 100, however, in developed countries like the USA, the prevalence is 1 in 36. This simply indicates that we are still missing a lot of cases due to a lack of awareness and expertise, and this does not end here, as per reports there is significant co-occurrence of Autism and other related disabilities. Also, it is a general estimate that approximately 4 in 10 people with autism also have a learning disability.
This delay in identification not only affects the child's developmental trajectory but also places a significant burden on families, educators, and healthcare providers. Addressing these challenges is crucial for ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to receive the timely and effective intervention necessary for their growth and success.
What is your solution?
To overcome the above-mentioned problem, we at Kidaura introduce ScreenPlay - a digital game-based screening tool that identifies children who may have a potential risk of autism or any other related condition in the age group of 3-6 years.
The main advantage of using games is that this helps us in capturing the true nature of the child without letting the child know that he/she is being assessed. Additionally, AI lets us extract and analyze patterns in the child’s gameplay which helps in predicting the potential risk of autism and other related disabilities.
Whenever a child interacts with our tool, we collect their finger kinematics data and then drive 40+ parameters such as their swiping speed, finger acceleration, jerk, time taken between two swipes, etc. These parameters are then passed to our AI model to predict the likelihood of the condition. We have validated our tool through multiple pilots at different demographics and also have done a multiphase blind folded clinical study and achieved 87.5% sensitivity in identifying such conditions.
Through Screenplay, we can achieve the goal of identification of potential risks using a fun, productive, data-driven, language-independent, and scalable way.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution, ScreenPlay, serves young children who are at risk of autism and related developmental conditions, as well as their parents, educators, and healthcare providers. These children, particularly those between the ages of 3 to 6, often face delayed diagnoses due to language and cultural barriers inherent in traditional assessments, leaving them underserved in receiving critical early intervention.
ScreenPlay directly impacts these children's lives by providing an accessible, engaging, and unbiased screening process that transcends language limitations. By delivering early and accurate insights, our tool ensures that children at risk of developmental conditions receive timely support, minimizing the potential long-term impact on their growth and educational outcomes.
For parents, ScreenPlay provides peace of mind and actionable data, empowering them to pursue appropriate interventions and resources for their child. Educators and healthcare providers benefit from better-understood and documented assessments, enabling them to craft tailored educational and therapeutic plans that truly meet the child's needs.
By addressing these gaps in early identification, ScreenPlay ensures that underserved children gain equitable access to the interventions they need, fostering an environment where they can thrive and reach their full potential.
