What specific problem are you solving?
We aim to solve the lack of accessible, high-performance prosthetic solutions for amputees in underserved and conflict-affected regions. Globally, over 65 million people live with limb loss, yet only 15–20% have access to appropriate prosthetic care. In low- and middle-income countries, especially in conflict zones like Gaza, fewer than 5% of amputees receive modern prosthetics due to high costs, lack of infrastructure, and limited local production. Many amputees suffer from reduced mobility, social isolation, and economic exclusion due to outdated or unsuitable devices. Current solutions are either too expensive, uncomfortable, or not adapted to the users' terrain and lifestyle. Our solution directly addresses these barriers through affordable, durable, and AI-enhanced prosthetics, including our ErgoLeg and BioniLeg models. We also prioritize local manufacturing, customization, and medical follow-up. By addressing physical, psychological, and economic barriers, we offer a scalable solution aligned with global health equity goals.
What is your solution?
Our solution is BioniLeg, an intelligent, affordable, and modular lower-limb prosthesis designed for amputees in underserved and low-resource settings. It combines a microprocessor-controlled knee, a customizable socket, and a lightweight carbon fiber ankle to provide comfort, stability, and natural movement. BioniLeg uses embedded sensors and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to analyze the user's gait and walking conditions in real time. This allows the prosthesis to automatically adapt to changes in speed, terrain, and posture—ensuring smoother, more stable movement with less effort from the user. The prosthesis connects via Bluetooth to a dedicated mobile application (available on Android and iOS), enabling users and clinicians to monitor performance, receive alerts, and adjust key settings remotely. This remote management system is especially useful in areas where in-person follow-up is difficult, improving long-term outcomes and user satisfaction. BioniLeg also includes energy-efficient components, and the system is designed for local manufacturing and repair, reducing costs and increasing accessibility. By combining AI, smart sensors, mobile technology, and ergonomic design, BioniLeg empowers amputees with greater mobility, independence, and quality of life. https://youtu.be/ZoKz4yBWM2Y?si=uuNhPuUBxRO-UsqG https://youtu.be/YVmYYxgT0tE?si=X--JO7CjRwHRQrfT
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution serves limb amputees in underserved, low-income, and conflict-affected regions, particularly in Africa and the Middle East. These individuals—often victims of war, accidents, or untreated medical conditions—face severe barriers to mobility due to the high cost of prosthetics, limited local production, and lack of access to rehabilitation services. Women, children, and people in rural areas are especially underserved, facing additional social and economic exclusion. Bionic Soul addresses these challenges through BioniLeg—an intelligent, affordable, and customizable prosthetic leg that adapts in real time to the user's walking pattern and terrain. Using embedded sensors, AI algorithms, and a Bluetooth-connected mobile app, BioniLeg offers comfort, stability, and remote monitoring, even in areas with limited medical infrastructure. To reach those most in need, we operate on three levels: – Direct-to-user (B2C): via outreach programs and digital platforms. – Institutional (B2B): through partnerships with clinics, hospitals, and rehabilitation centers. – Governmental (B2G): by collaborating with ministries, NGOs, and public health institutions to support national disability and reintegration programs.
