What specific problem are you solving?
Globally, health systems are under-resourced and overstretched. One study found that primary care physicians in 18 countries — about 50% of the global population — spend 5 minutes or less with their patients. Further, there are ~1.3 million under-5 deaths per year in South Asia alone, many of which can be averted through better health practices that are actionable at home. Family caregivers have immense potential to improve outcomes if enabled with the right support. Noora Health equips family caregivers with life-saving skills to care for their loved ones. We train healthcare staff to engage patient families through in-hospital training sessions (i.e Care Companion Program), followed by continued engagement via mobile phones (primarily WhatsApp) through our mobile Care Companion Platform (mCCP), providing follow-up guidance to caregivers. mCCP reinforces behaviors and provides sustained guidance to caregivers, beyond the walls of the health-facility. Our existing remote support service fosters long-term engagement to drive sustained behavior change. However, with 1.3M+ users and 10,000+ daily queries, it struggles with personalization, responsiveness, and interactivity. Families manage multiple health needs simultaneously, and their content preferences vary across formats and frequencies. As the service scales 10x by 2028, we require a more adaptive and efficient approach.
What is your solution?
Our solution is an AI-powered mobile Care Companion Platform (mCCP) that acts as a personalized, proactive digital health assistant for caregivers. It uses generative AI through a mobile messaging interface to proactively identify caregiver and patient needs, deliver timely, culturally relevant health information, and support long-term behavior change. The AI-enabled mCCP will learn from families as they interact with the mobile-messaging service, to provide tailored support in multiple dialects and languages, allowing our clinical staff to focus on complex cases. To achieve this, we plan to build two AI-powered systems: 1) Caregiving Content Platform — an AI-powered platform that personalizes caregiving support through dynamic family profiles, tailored bite-sized content, and timely, multi-format campaigns — and 2) a Health Navigator — an intelligent assistant that classifies health queries, crafts tailored responses, and connects users to the right care using geofenced triage services. With advanced voice capabilities, it expands low-literacy access, offering crisis support and guiding families to the next level of care. Over time, this solution will enable our team and platform to equip more caregivers and patients to care more effectively, with knowledge and confidence to navigate health systems, make informed decisions, and improve patient outcomes. Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our primary users will be patients and caregivers who participate in our in-facility program, delivered through public health systems across India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Nepal. We serve communities that often lack access to healthcare resources, including rural, low-income families and vulnerable groups. These populations face significant barriers to healthcare access—limited transportation, language barriers, and lack of awareness of available healthcare services. Additionally, many caregivers we serve struggle with financial constraints and lack resources to seek regular medical consultations. Our in-facility programs have demonstrated clinical health impact including reducing post-surgical complications among cardiac patients by 71%, neonatal mortality by 18%, and newborn readmissions by 56%. Within the geographies we serve, our users belong to multiple regions and speak the following languages that we offer mobile Care Companion Platform (mCCP) in: Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Marathi, Punjabi, Bengali, Bahasa Indonesia, English. A recent study showed that the mCCP, in its current state, leads to significant improvements across key maternal and neonatal care practices, including increased rates of breastfeeding, proper cord care, skin-to-skin contact with mothers and fathers and better adherence to maternal dietary guidelines. We anticipate that these outcomes will only be amplified once the solution is integrated with AI.
