What specific problem are you solving?
At WalkAbout, we’re addressing senior citizens' lack of access to economic and financial resources. While over 1 billion people globally are 60 or older, only a small percentage remain economically active, just 5% in India. This is not due to lack of interest or ability but because of limited access to digital skills, lifelong learning, and post-retirement work opportunities. Our platform bridges this gap through peer-to-peer learning, digital upskilling, and community engagement tailored for older adults. With over 2M users in India, we’re helping this growing population stay active, informed, and connected.
Three Pillars of Economic Empowerment for Older Adults
1. Entrepreneurship Pathways
We've created meaningful opportunities through our entrepreneurship programs, helping older adults start small businesses, teach on our platform, and convert skills into income.
2. Financial Independence & Security
We run dedicated finance and cybersecurity classes to help them confidently manage money, plan for retirement, avoid fraud, and make informed financial decisions.
3. Strategic Partnerships for Scale
Through partnerships with governments, banks, and social organizations, we're building scalable solutions that support economic inclusion, improve mental well-being, and reduce isolation. Older adults are ready to contribute, and we're ensuring they can.
What is your solution?
Recognizing the shifting demographics and growing need for age-inclusive solutions, WalkAbout empowers older adults, particularly women, with the tools, knowledge, and community support needed to stay financially independent and economically active. As a premium community platform designed for those aged 55+, we offer daily live, peer-led sessions on entrepreneurship, digital skills, financial literacy, and health. Over a third of our team is over 50, helping us stay deeply attuned to the needs of our members. Our local meetups, WhatsApp groups, and community hours foster meaningful peer connections while combating social isolation and building confidence. Older women gain the confidence to make informed decisions and generate income post-retirement through classes on managing pensions, understanding inheritance laws, navigating government schemes, and exploring micro-entrepreneurship. We’ve helped members launch home-based businesses, become community trainers, and actively manage their finances, many for the first time. All offerings are available via mobile-friendly technology using video and audio, making them accessible. WalkAbout is helping redefine economic opportunity for India’s aging population, one community at a time. Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution serves older adults, with a focus on women aged 50+, who are often underserved in digital literacy, financial education, and opportunities for economic engagement. Many face social isolation, lack access to tailored resources, and are excluded from conversations around income generation despite having valuable experience and the desire to contribute. WalkAbout provides a community-driven platform that helps older adults stay connected, informed, and financially empowered.
We offer peer-led classes and resources in regional languages on digital skills, entrepreneurship, inheritance laws, and financial literacy. These tools help older women understand their rights, plan for retirement, and explore new sources of income, including starting home-based businesses. We also foster a sense of belonging through social hours, community groups, and local meetups that support mental well-being and confidence. Our tech-enabled solution ensures accessibility, even in rural and low-bandwidth areas. By creating a safe, relatable space where older adults can learn and lead, WalkAbout is not just meeting their needs; it’s helping them thrive as independent, contributing members of society. Financial literacy isn’t just about money, it’s a path to confidence, security, and inclusion, helping women shape not only their futures but their families’ and communities’ as well.
