What specific problem are you solving?
Globally, strokes remain one of the leading causes of death and disability, impacting over 15 million people annually, with two-thirds occurring in low- and middle-income countries. Each minute delay in stroke treatment drastically increases the risk of permanent disability or death, yet most healthcare systems, particularly in underserved regions, lack timely and precise diagnostic capabilities. Current diagnostic methods often require specialized medical expertise and costly infrastructure, delaying critical care. Furthermore, underserved populations face compounded barriers such as limited medical resources, long wait times, and prohibitive healthcare costs, intensifying health inequities worldwide. Our solution specifically addresses these barriers by providing rapid, accurate, and accessible stroke diagnostics leveraging ethical AI and advanced data analytics. By significantly reducing diagnostic times from hours to mere seconds, we directly confront the factors contributing to stroke mortality and morbidity, transforming the efficiency and responsiveness of healthcare systems worldwide. This immediacy not only saves lives but also reduces long-term healthcare costs and promotes equity, especially crucial for vulnerable communities.
What is your solution?
I SMILE AI-StrokeCare is an advanced AI-based platform designed for rapid, precise detection and prediction of strokes using medical imaging data, primarily CT scans. Our solution utilizes cutting-edge machine learning algorithms to instantly analyze medical images, accurately identifying stroke type and severity within approximately 40 seconds. By securely integrating with existing healthcare systems, our platform provides clinicians with immediate, clear, and actionable diagnostic insights without requiring extensive additional infrastructure. Our technology ensures strict ethical data handling and privacy protection aligned with global standards. Furthermore, the AI-driven approach significantly reduces reliance on scarce specialist resources, enabling accurate diagnosis even in remote or underserved regions. Our innovative method is proven to reduce delays in critical care, increase healthcare system resilience, and improve patient outcomes, ultimately transforming the global stroke-care landscape through actionable, ethical, and high-impact AI.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
I SMILE AI-StrokeCare primarily serves individuals at immediate risk of stroke, especially those living in underserved, rural, or economically disadvantaged communities globally. Approximately two-thirds of global stroke-related deaths occur in low- and middle-income regions, where limited access to specialist care, diagnostic delays, and lack of affordable healthcare severely exacerbate health outcomes. Our AI-driven solution directly addresses these disparities by empowering healthcare facilities of all sizes—especially those lacking specialist neurologists—to provide timely, accurate stroke diagnostics. This dramatically reduces treatment delays, enhances survival rates, and significantly improves patients' long-term quality of life by minimizing permanent disabilities. Moreover, our cost-effective model (€10 per diagnostic usage) ensures affordability, thus removing economic barriers for marginalized populations. By providing immediate diagnostic clarity, we also significantly reduce strain on healthcare systems, freeing resources to improve care quality across the board. In essence, I SMILE AI-StrokeCare not only saves countless lives but fundamentally reshapes global healthcare equity, delivering critical medical services efficiently and compassionately to communities that need it most.
