India, the largest consumer of milk, faces major challenges such as adulteration, spoilage, and excessive plastic waste due to the lack of traceability. Most dairy products lack transparency, leaving consumers unaware of the milk’s origins and quality, leading to nutrition deficiencies in a predominantly vegetarian population. Over 95% of organized dairy in India relies on single-use plastic, generating 300 million plastic pouches daily. The absence of traceability infrastructure and viable alternatives makes switching to zero-plastic solutions impractical for the industry, which is one of the largest contributors to plastic waste. Additionally, 70% of dairy producers, particularly small and marginal farmers, struggle with severe livelihood challenges. These farmers, located in remote regions, lack climate-resilient agriculture, market connectivity, and access to power and cooling infrastructure. Although India produces the highest amount of milk globally, most of it comes from farmers without basic infrastructure. Globally, the dairy industry faces similar plastic waste issues, with Tetra packs, plastic pouches, and HDPE bottles contributing to landfills. Inadequate traceability, cooling infrastructure, and waste management remain critical challenges in both developing and underdeveloped economies.

Desigo® Milk is a sustainable, tech-driven solution that transforms the dairy supply chain by delivering 100% traceable, high-quality single-origin milk from indigenous cows in trackable, no-plastic, multi-use containers. Our solution empowers rural women farmers with alternative-powered cooling systems and smart technology tools to manage production and increase their income. Our innovative approach combines AI-powered traceability, RFID-tagged containers, solar-powered chilling systems, smart thermal barrels, and proprietary software/mobile applications. This integrated solution ensures high-quality, traceable milk, operates on zero plastic, and reduces operational costs. By using clean energy, we cut thermal energy loss by up to 10 times during storage, transit, and re-cooling. As a result, our solution increases the income of partner farmers by at least 60%. This holistic approach not only improves the dairy supply chain's efficiency but also empowers women farmers, promotes sustainability, and enhances transparency in the industry.

Desigo® Milk serves rural women farmers in underserved, remote regions of western Rajasthan, where access to resources, education, financial independence, and opportunities for empowerment is limited. These women primarily engage in traditional dairy farming but face significant challenges like inconsistent grid connectivity, low internet access, and lack of market connections. Despite producing high-quality milk, they often receive unfair pricing and lack modern technology. Our solution directly impacts their lives by providing access to solar power systems, remote-managed smart chillers, smart thermal barrels, AI-driven management tools, and training. With these tools, we empower women farmers to increase their income by at least 60% from milk sales, reduce post-production losses, and gain more control over their business operations. Our solution also eliminates the need for single-use plastics, promoting environmental sustainability. Through a mobile application, farmers can track production and finances, even in low-connectivity areas, fostering financial inclusion. By training and empowering women, we transform them into entrepreneurs who lead production sites, improving their economic stability and well-being.
