What specific problem are you solving?
In Northern Nigeria, over 60% of the population lacks access to basic healthcare, particularly in states like Sokoto, Jigawa, Yobe, and Zamfara—regions with some of the highest maternal and under-five mortality rates in the world (UNICEF Nigeria, 2023). These communities are often cut off from timely aid, with weak health infrastructure, minimal surveillance systems, and poor road access. As a result, outbreaks of preventable diseases like cholera, measles, and malaria escalate rapidly, unnoticed until too late. This problem reflects a broader crisis across sub-Saharan Africa, where over 400 million people live in underserved areas with no reliable health data, limiting the reach of both government and humanitarian responders (WHO, 2022). Globally, over 2.5 billion people face similar challenges—especially women, children, youth, and persons with disabilities in rural or conflict-affected areas (World Bank, 2021). Our Health Intelligence Platform (HIP) bridges this gap by using real-time data, mobile-first data collection, AI-powered health alerts, and intervention matching systems to direct emergency response and healthcare resources where they’re needed most—ensuring no one is left invisible or behind.
What is your solution?
The Health Intelligence Platform (HIP) is a digital health solution that collects, analyzes, and responds to real-time health data from remote, underserved communities in Northern Nigeria. It combines mobile technology, AI, and emergency response tools to close the gap between health needs and life-saving interventions. Here’s how it works: trained community health workers use smartphones to report health data—like disease symptoms, births, deaths, or medicine shortages—from rural areas. This data is instantly uploaded to the cloud, where HIP’s AI engine analyzes trends and flags urgent risks such as outbreaks or supply gaps. Once flagged, HIP sends automatic alerts to government agencies, NGOs, and healthcare partners, enabling a fast response. It also recommends where to send medical teams, vaccines, drugs, or funding based on need. In crisis situations, First Aid Mobile Units (EMRTs) are dispatched to provide immediate care on the ground. HIP doesn’t just collect data—it turns it into action. It ensures that every woman, child, or isolated person is seen and served, no matter how remote they are. It’s tech-powered, human-centered, and designed to make invisible communities visible in healthcare planning.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
HIP directly serves marginalized communities in Northern Nigeria—especially women, children, persons with disabilities, and youth—living in remote or conflict-affected areas with little or no access to healthcare. These populations are often invisible in national health data, which means they’re left out of funding, vaccine campaigns, and emergency responses. In Sokoto, Jigawa, Yobe, and Zamfara, families walk hours to reach clinics, only to find no staff or supplies. Pregnant women give birth without skilled help. Children die from treatable diseases. People with disabilities face even greater barriers due to stigma and mobility challenges. The problem isn’t just poverty—it’s systemic exclusion from planning, data, and support. HIP changes this. By collecting real-time health data directly from the community, HIP ensures that no household is missed. It identifies who needs what—then alerts the right agencies and matches them with medical support, faster and more accurately. For these communities, HIP means being seen, being counted, and being helped. It brings the healthcare system to their doorstep—and gives decision-makers the tools to plan with precision and equity.
