What specific problem are you solving?
We're solving the growing health and climate crisis caused by indoor air pollution and inaccessible carbon removal. In 2018, 82% of North American cities had good air quality, now just 14% do. Wildfires have worsened outdoor air, and indoor environments are suffering too. People spend 90% of their time indoors, where CO₂ levels frequently exceed 1,000 ppm. Research shows that it could impair productivity by 60-101% and sleep quality by up to 80%. At the same time, carbon removal is only available at the industrial scale: centralized, capital-intensive, and slow-to-deploy. Industrial Direct Air Capture is amazing, but projects like Climeworks and Carbon Engineering took billions of dollars and decades to deploy. Carbon credits, while well-intentioned, are often vague, hard to verify, and disengaging for companies that lack control over timelines or outcomes. In 2024, we interviewed 100 people across NYC and Vancouver. Over 85% expressed concern about climate change, but 0% had heard of direct air capture or any cutting-edge carbon removal tools. The takeaway: people want to help but lack tangible, trusted solutions. Our approach brings carbon removal into everyday spaces: homes, offices, schools. We tackle health and climate in one. We’re turning passive concern into visible action, where people live, work, and breathe.
What is your solution?
Atalanta Climate builds the world’s first home and office-based direct air capture (DAC) device. Our plug-and-play hardware removes excess CO₂ from indoor air and stores it safely for over 1,000 years. Building on top of traditional air purifiers that target PM2.5, our device also targets gaseous CO₂, which directly affects cognitive function, sleep, and wellness. The system draws ambient air through an integrated fan, channels it across a solid adsorbent with high CO₂ selectivity, but is also safe for indoor usage. Once saturated, the sorbent bed is regenerated using a room-temperature, liquid-based, and fully-electrified regeneration process optimized for 10x less energy usage than our industrial counterparts. Captured CO₂ is then sequestered within the device and converted into limestone rock dust, which has the permanence of 1000+ years. Each unit comes with sensors that provide real-time metrics on CO₂ removed, indoor air quality, and wellness-linked insights, bridging individual action with global impact. We're currently at a TRL of 5.5, moving towards 6/7. Here's a video walkthrough: https://www.veed.io/view/67bfa3e5-7de0-4290-a95e-fa07bd695efa?panel=share
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
We serve individuals and organizations who want healthier indoor air and meaningful climate action, but currently lack accessible tools to achieve either. Our primary users are office workers, startup founders, students, and hotel guests: populations that spend a lot of their time indoors, often in poorly ventilated environments with elevated CO₂ levels, but also sometimes have an ESG target. These users are underserved in two key ways. First, their indoor air quality directly impacts cognitive function, sleep quality, and productivity, yet current solutions like air purifiers only target dust and allergens, not CO₂. Second, individuals and businesses alike are frustrated by the lack of transparency and control in existing carbon offset systems, which feel disconnected from everyday life. Atalanta Climate's solution addresses both needs. By removing CO₂ from indoor air and providing real-time data on wellness and climate impact, we empower users to improve their own environments while contributing to global decarbonization. Whether in a classroom, boardroom, or home office, our device makes clean air and climate action tangible, local, and personal.
