What specific problem are you solving?
In Pakistan, much like the developing world, 70% of children are not learning despite years of schooling. Education systems lack real-time diagnostic tools to identify learning gaps and deliver targeted, iterative, data-driven interventions. 26 million children are out of school, and those in classrooms suffer from poor & static learning outcomes. Despite years of schooling, 70% of primary-level education students struggle with reading a simple text, and 36% of students drop out of post-primary level education due to systemic inefficiencies. Traditional teaching methods lack personalization, failing to address individual learning gaps. 1 million additional teachers are needed in Pakistan to cover its educational needs, while existing educators struggle to receive adequate professional development. This creates a perpetual cycle: overburdened teachers rely on one-size-fits-all instruction, resulting in disengaged students, who are unable to meet grade-level competencies. With the lack of real-time student diagnostics, the learning gaps widen. This feeds the pre-existing inequity, which is most harshly felt by the lower socioeconomic strata of Pakistan, impacting women and female children disproportionately. Manual teacher coaching, which is critical to improving instructional quality, is labor-intensive, costly, and difficult to scale, due to which access is confined within economically privileged areas.
What is your solution?
Our solution is Digital AI Coach, which is an integration of three AI-powered tools: Classroom Audio analysis tool: Voice records classroom sessions to analyze teaching practices and instructional effectiveness, and provides written and verbal feedback based on World Bank teach tool metrics.. Exam Generator: Creates curriculum-aligned assessments aligned with Bloom's taxonomy in a few seconds at a push of few buttons. Exam Checker: Grades handwritten exams through an AI-powered exam checker. Digital AI Coach converts a static, one-size-fits-all solution into an iterative, data-driven process. Teachers get immediate feedback in their language, just as a human coach would provide, to improve their classroom practices. Assessment tools accurately pinpoint student learning gaps. Learning content and instructional practices are personalized to student learning levels. It is powered by AI, reviewed by humans. We have an app through which the teacher can record their class and get feedback on their teaching practice. With it, they can click an image of an exam and get the students' results with feedback.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our primary target users are public school teachers and students in grades 1-5, and our primary customers are the provincial governments in Pakistan. We provide our services directly to organizations (governmental bodies). We currently serve in 776 schools, catering to 166,412 students and 5728 teachers. 80% of students in these schools come from households living below the 5.5 PPP per day poverty line. The proposed project will cater to these audiences. Impact on Teachers: They are often overburdened with administrative tasks and may lack regular feedback, especially in under-resourced public schools. For teachers, the Exam Generator and Checker automate assessment tasks, and the classroom audio analysis tool provides regular, personalized feedback. Impact on Students: Students, particularly from lower-income backgrounds, suffer from a system that doesn't address individual learning needs, leading to poor outcomes and dropouts. Basic literacy and numeracy are challenges for many. Students will benefit from improved teaching and personalized learning.
