What specific problem are you solving?
Over 300 million children globally experience speech and language disorders, significantly impacting their academic performance, confidence, and lifelong outcomes. In the U.S. alone, 1 in 12 children has a communication disorder, but the number of licensed Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) cannot meet demand. Waitlists often exceed 6–12 months, particularly in public schools and rural areas. Private therapy is costly, often exceeding $150 per session, placing a significant financial burden on families. Lack of access to early, consistent, and personalized intervention leaves many children behind during the critical years of language development. Additionally, cultural, linguistic, and geographic disparities exacerbate these challenges for underserved communities. The current system fails to scale effectively, and innovative tools that can bridge school, clinic, and home environments are urgently needed to expand access and improve outcomes.
What is your solution?
Sara is an AI-powered speech therapy platform that brings personalized, evidence-based speech practice into the home and classroom. Designed in partnership with Speech-Language Pathologists, Sara uses child-specific speech recognition and large language models to provide real-time feedback on pronunciation, track progress over time, and deliver insights to both therapists and caregivers. It functions as a digital co-therapist, supporting SLPs in extending their care beyond in-person sessions, and as a learning companion for children. Sara is accessible on mobile devices and gamified for engagement, making therapy more consistent, cost-effective, and scalable.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Sara primarily serves children aged 4–12 with speech sound disorders, their caregivers, and the speech therapists who support them. Children in public schools, rural communities, and low-income families often face long waitlists or lack access to therapy altogether. By supplementing therapist-led sessions with engaging, at-home practice, Sara improves consistency and early intervention, key factors in long-term communication outcomes. Caregivers gain a tool that empowers them to be active participants in their child’s development, while Speech-Language Pathologists benefit from automated progress tracking and expanded reach. Over time, Sara can reduce costs, close access gaps, and enable children to speak clearly, confidently, and thrive in both academic and social environments.
