What specific problem are you solving?
Plastic waste pollution is escalating globally, with the world generating 2.01 billion tonnes annually—projected to rise by 70% by 2050 (World Bank, 2023). Only 11.03% is recycled, leaving an untapped potential of 2.45 million jobs, $136 trillion in wages, and $19 billion in tax revenue annually (US EPA). In the Indo-Pacific, especially in low-income urban and coastal communities, unmanaged plastic waste causes severe health issues, environmental degradation, and contamination of marine food and drinking water by nano and microplastics. Despite the recyclable value of many plastics, they are often burned, dumped in landfills or nature, or exported at low value due to fragmented collection systems, lack of traceability, and poor local recycling incentives. Informal waste collectors work under unsafe, exploitative conditions, selling recyclables at unfair prices due to monopolized junk shop networks. Recyclers struggle to source clean, sorted materials, while governments lack reliable data for effective policy and system optimization. Our research highlights strong community demand for peer-to-peer recycling, fair pricing, and localized digital infrastructure. There is a critical need for a spatial AI-enabled platform to coordinate stakeholders, track materials, standardize trade, and enable new micro-enterprises in storage, pelletizing, and barter-based recyclables trade via general merchandise stores.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
PlastikPay+ serves a broad user base including: 👩🚲 Women informal waste pickers, street sweepers, waste truck collector employees, and aggregators who need better market access and fairer (competitive even) pricing 🛒🛒 Buyers (recyclers, upcyclers, and shredders) seeking clean and traceable materials, how many r how much by volume per vicinity (or 5 meter-radius, for instance), where, when, condition, packaging, pricing, etc. 👦👧 Environmental and youth entrepreneurs and SMEs looking to digitize their supply chains 👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 Local communities and municipalities seeking better data and coordination 💼📊 Those with preference in doing business with known, reputable, legitimate, and direct-to-community people or groups 🏢🏦 Companies looking for transparency and traceability of their social contributions The platform addresses their challenges by streamlining transactions, providing real-time mapping, and facilitating better logistics coordination. Users can post buy/sell listings, attach media for verification, pin their location, and negotiate directly. This empowers informal workers, improves the quality and volume of recyclable plastics entering the system, and reduces plastic leakage into the environment. By building this ecosystem, PlastikPay not only supports circularity but promotes inclusivity and economic empowerment.
