What specific problem are you solving?
Millions of Pakistani's belonging to middle and lower SECs do not have safety nets against adverse circumstances e.g. cancer as they are financially excluded. Most of the families are just 1 hospitalization bill away from poverty. Women are worse off as they are not considered earning members of the family and only a fraction have medical insurance while Pakistan has the highest breast cancer incidence rate in Asia (1 out of every 9 Women are at risk) and most of the women die due to lack of funds for medical care. Infact, every day over 100 women die of cancer in Pakistan due to delay in diagnostics or lack of funding for treatment. Cancer treatment is expensive and getting diagnosed w it is considered equivalent to getting a death sentence.
What is your solution?
ITTEHAAD is pioneering the Mutual Aid concept (an affordable alternative to insurance) in Pakistan offering up to 2 million Rs cancer treatment cover against a tiny commitment of 20 Rs/month/member. All you need is to have a bank account / mobile wallet to subscribe to the service and contribute as and when required. e.g Everyone with a JazzCash wallet or a debit/credit card can become a member by subscribing to "app.ittehaad.com" and link the account by following simple steps. This shall pave the way for millions of unbanked adults to open bank accounts and start their journey towards greater financial inclusion while being covered against 5 of the top cancers prevalent in Pakistan (Breast, Brain, Liver, Lungs & Cervix Cancers) and helping other Pakistani brothers and sisters in need
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
ITTEHAAD serves low- to middle-income individuals and families in Pakistan who are highly vulnerable to financial shocks caused by health emergencies. Our target population includes women, daily wage workers, domestic helpers, students, informal sector workers & people with below 200,000Rs monthly income . These individuals are often excluded from traditional insurance due to high costs, lack of awareness, and complicated processes.
In times of illness, many are forced to sell productive assets—such as livestock, rickshaws, or shop inventory—or rely on exploitative loans, use up their savings, or delay treatment altogether. These coping strategies often result in worsened health outcomes, deeper financial insecurity, and prolonged hardship. Women in particular—like our house helper diagnosed with breast cancer—often suffer in silence due to financial constraints and social barriers to care.
ITTEHAAD offers a digital, community-driven solution based on mutual aid. Members contribute as little as Rs. 20/month, but only when a fellow member is diagnosed. Collected funds are directly transferred to the hospital or patient’s bank account, ensuring a claim-free, hassle-free experience.
This model supports early diagnosis, timely treatment, and financial resilience—protecting families’ productive assets and promoting long-term prosperity through trust in financial safety nets.
