What specific problem are you solving?
Nigeria's coastal zones are among the most vulnerable in West Africa, facing increasing threats from sea level rise, erosion, oil pollution, pirate attacks and unregulated development. With over 30 million Nigerians living along the coast and key industries such as fishing, tourism, and energy relying on these zones, the socio-economic and environmental stakes are high. Unfortunately, there is a significant lack of real time, localized data to inform disaster response, coastal planning, and community resilience strategies. This data gap severely undermines proactive environmental protection and sustainable development along Nigeria’s coastlines.
What is your solution?
CoastalWave is an integrated drone and GIS powered monitoring solution for Nigeria’s vulnerable coastal zones. Using a fleet of drones equipped with high resolution imaging, thermal sensors, and LIDAR, we collect real time geospatial data on coastal erosion, flooding, mangrove degradation, oil pollution, pirates attacks, and infrastructure risks. This data is analyzed using AI powered GIS tools and delivered via interactive dashboards to stakeholders which includes government agencies, local communities, NGOs, and researchers for early warning, planning, and action. CoastalWave empowers data driven decisions that protect lives, livelihoods, infrastructure and biodiversity along the coast.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our primary beneficiaries include coastal communities, government authorities (i.e local, state and federal government), disaster response teams, and environmental conservation groups. Many of these communities especially in Niger Delta states like Rivers state, Bayelsa state, Akwa-Ibom stata, Delta state, etc are underserved, with little access to climate resilience resources or environmental data. By providing accurate, up to date maps and risk reports, CoastalWave equips them to take proactive measures against flooding, erosion, pirate attaccks and pollution. Local fishers, farmers, and families will benefit from better resource planning, safety alerts, and advocacy data. Government agencies and NGOs can use the platform to implement targeted, data-driven climate adaptation policies and interventions.
