What specific problem are you solving?
In Colombia, rural students face severe educational inequities. According to OECD PISA data, over 60% of 15-year-old students in rural areas do not reach minimum proficiency in reading, mathematics, or science. National dropout rates in secondary education reach 3.6%, but in rural zones this is significantly higher due to poverty, limited access to updated learning materials, unstable internet connectivity, and a lack of personalized academic support.
These students are not only underserved but disconnected from 21st-century learning. They struggle to transition to higher education or to develop the problem-solving, creativity, and digital literacy skills required for today’s labor market. Most educational technologies are designed for urban, well-connected contexts, leaving rural learners behind.
Globally, UNESCO estimates that over 244 million children and youth are out of school, many of them in rural and low-resource settings. Without intervention, the digital divide will widen, exacerbating social inequality.
Our solution addresses this gap with an AI-powered learning ecosystem tailored to low-bandwidth rural environments. By combining personalized tutoring, semantic learning analysis, and automated peer learning communities, we aim to improve educational outcomes and provide students with the tools they need to thrive in a digital world.
What is your solution?
Aula Cell AI is a smart learning platform designed to support students in rural secondary schools through an adaptive, AI-powered virtual ecosystem. It combines a 3D avatar-based interface (built with Unity WebGL) and three intelligent bots to create personalized and collaborative learning experiences.
Here’s how it works:
Bot 1 acts as an academic assistant, responding to questions, explaining concepts, and reviewing assignments in real time using natural language processing (NLP).
Bot 2 performs semantic analysis on students’ interactions to detect recurring learning difficulties and identify “problem nuclei” across user groups.
Bot 3 creates study groups based on common challenges and connects students via moderated WhatsApp channels, turning isolated learners into active learning communities.
The platform is designed to operate in low-connectivity environments and can be accessed via basic devices. Its lightweight architecture supports offline caching and modular deployment.
This system fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and autonomy while directly strengthening core academic skills in reading, math, and science. It has already been piloted with over 1,000 users and is now being adapted for deployment in rural schools in Colombia.

Our solution directly benefits students in rural secondary schools in Colombia, particularly those in the final years of upper secondary education (grades 10 and 11). These students often face multidimensional poverty, unstable internet access, and lack of academic support. They are typically underserved by national education systems and excluded from most digital learning tools, which are designed for urban, well-connected environments.
Rural learners are disproportionately behind in foundational skills: reading, mathematics, and science, as well as 21st-century competencies such as critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy. These gaps limit their educational pathways and long-term opportunities.
Aula Cell AI provides these students with access to personalized academic support, tailored content, and collaborative learning environments. By using avatars and intelligent bots to create real-time tutoring and peer learning networks, the platform helps students feel supported, stay engaged, and make measurable progress in their studies.
In the long term, this contributes to higher school retention rates, stronger transitions to higher education or vocational paths, and improved confidence and autonomy. Our solution also indirectly benefits teachers and rural schools by introducing scalable digital tools aligned with their local needs and contexts.
