Ndzilo Fire Solutions is addressing the urgent and growing problem of fire-related disasters in underserved and climate-vulnerable communities, particularly in informal settlements and conservation zones across South Africa. Fires in these areas are often caused by unsafe energy sources during load shedding, dry weather conditions, and human error, leading to loss of life, property damage, and forced displacement. Over 6.3 million people live in informal settlements in South Africa, with more than 3.1 million affected by fires annually. Emergency response times are often slow due to limited infrastructure and poor alert systems, exacerbating the impact. Globally, climate change has intensified the frequency and severity of wildfires and urban fires, particularly in low-income regions where fire detection infrastructure is minimal. Our solution directly addresses this challenge by integrating AI-powered early warning systems with community-centered fire education, providing real-time alerts that can reduce response times by up to 60 percent. This approach supports climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and human safety, offering a scalable model to reduce displacement and improve resilience in high-risk areas.

Ndzilo Fire Solutions is an AI-powered early warning and fire detection system designed to protect communities from devastating fires. Our solution uses smart sensors, satellite data, and real-time analytics to detect heat, smoke, and fire risks indoors and outdoors. Once a threat is detected, it sends instant alerts via mobile phones, SMS, or community radios to nearby residents, fire services, and local authorities—helping them act quickly and reduce damage. The system works in informal settlements and nature reserves, even during load shedding or limited connectivity. It’s easy to install, energy-efficient, and designed for areas with limited infrastructure. Ndzilo also includes a mobile app and a community dashboard that tracks fire incidents and supports local response efforts. By combining accessible tech with community engagement, we’re building safer, more climate-resilient environments.

Ndzilo Fire Solutions serves communities most vulnerable to fires—especially those living in informal settlements, rural areas, and regions affected by climate-induced wildfires. In South Africa alone, over 6.3 million people live in informal housing, where access to fire safety infrastructure is limited or non-existent. Many rely on open flames, paraffin heaters, and unsafe electrical connections, making them extremely susceptible to devastating fires. Our solution directly impacts these underserved communities by offering an accessible, affordable, and reliable early warning system that detects fires before they spread. By reducing response times by up to 60 percent, we help prevent displacement, loss of life, and damage to property. Ndzilo also serves local fire departments, conservation authorities, and disaster response teams by providing real-time data to coordinate quicker and more efficient responses. Beyond detection, we foster community awareness and empower local leaders through training and digital tools that promote fire safety. In doing so, we not only save lives but also build long-term climate resilience in communities that have been historically overlooked by traditional fire response systems.
