Fires in these areas are often caused by unsafe energy sources during load shedding, dry weather conditions, and human error, leading to loss of life, property damage, and forced displacement. Over 6.3 million people live in informal settlements in South Africa, with more than 3.1 million affected by fires annually. Emergency response times are often slow due to limited infrastructure and poor alert systems, exacerbating the impact. Globally, climate change has intensified the frequency and severity of wildfires and urban fires, particularly in low-income regions where fire detection infrastructure is minimal. Our solution directly addresses this challenge by integrating AI-powered early warning systems with community-centered fire education, providing real-time alerts that can reduce response times by up to 60 percent. This approach supports climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and human safety, offering a scalable model to reduce displacement and improve resilience in high-risk areas.

Ndzilo Fire Solutions is an AI-powered early warning and fire detection system designed to protect communities from devastating fires. It’s easy to install, energy-efficient, and designed for areas with limited infrastructure.
