What specific problem are you solving?
Globally, the poultry sector plays a crucial role in addressing food security and providing affordable protein, yet it faces significant challenges, especially in low- and middle-income countries.
In sub-Saharan Africa, poultry farming is predominantly driven by smallholder farmers, many of whom lack access to tools and technologies that enable efficient, climate-resilient production. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Africa’s per capita poultry consumption is among the lowest globally, despite demand projected to more than double by 2050.
In Nigeria, the largest poultry producer in West Africa, over 60% of poultry farmers experience losses due to poor brooding, heat stress, and preventable disease outbreaks. Mortality rates in small and medium-scale poultry farms can reach 35–40%, significantly reducing income and exacerbating protein shortages.
One core issue is the lack of precision in monitoring and managing critical poultry processes such as incubation, brooding, and hatching. Many farmers rely on guesswork, kerosene lamps, and outdated infrastructure, which compromise productivity, increase costs, and heighten exposure to climate shocks.
Globally, agriculture accounts for 19–29% of greenhouse gas emissions, and inefficient energy use on farms contributes to this burden. Without urgent intervention, these inefficiencies threaten both local livelihoods and global food security.
What is your solution?
Our solution is the Anatsor Integrated Poultry Management System (AIPMS), a smart farm automation tool designed to improve productivity in poultry farming by addressing inefficiencies in brooding, incubation, and hatching. AIPMS uses Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and artificial intelligence to monitor and control critical parameters such as temperature, humidity, air quality, and feed levels within poultry environments.
It works by installing sensors and control units in poultry houses, which continuously collect real-time data and automate climate adjustments to ensure optimal conditions for poultry growth and development. These insights are synced to the Anatsor mobile application, allowing farmers to remotely monitor their farms, receive alerts, and access recommendations for better farm decisions.
To address energy access issues common in rural farming areas, AIPMS includes a solar extension option that powers the entire system using clean, renewable energy. This ensures 24/7 operation, even in off-grid communities, while reducing the need for kerosene or diesel generators.
The system is easy to install, user-friendly, and scalable, making it suitable for small and medium-scale poultry farmers. By simplifying farm management and ensuring precision, AIPMS significantly increases efficiency, reduces mortality, and improves farmer income.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
At Anatsor, we have designed our solution specifically for smallholder poultry farmers in Nigeria and across sub-Saharan Africa, many of whom are women and youth living in rural, underserved communities. These farmers face systemic barriers such as unreliable energy, poor access to modern agricultural tools, high production losses due to poor brooding and hatching environments, and limited digital infrastructure to make informed farm management decisions.
Our solution, the Anatsor Integrated Poultry Management System (AIPMS), addresses these challenges by providing an affordable, easy-to-use, and scalable system that automates critical poultry operations using IoT and AI. Farmers gain real-time insights into their poultry environment, helping them maintain optimal conditions, reduce chick mortality, and increase overall productivity. The solar-powered extension are ensuring that even those without access to the national grid can operate the system continuously.
By improving operational efficiency and reducing the burden of manual monitoring, our solution is helping farmers save time, reduce costs, and generate higher income. This translates to better livelihoods, food security in local communities, and increased resilience against climate shocks. Our vision is to support 50,000 farmers by 2027, particularly women and youth, ensuring that poultry farming becomes a viable, climate-smart pathway out of poverty.
