What specific problem are you solving?
In Benin and across Sub-Saharan Africa, nearly 60% of people lack access to essential health services, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas (World Bank, 2023). Geographical barriers, limited healthcare infrastructure, high out-of-pocket costs, and shortages of trained providers delay or prevent millions from access to quality healthcare, thus worsening maternal, child, and chronic disease outcomes.
In Benin, for example, only 1 physician exists per 10,000 people, and 44% of rural residents travel more than 5 kilometers to reach care (WHO, 2022). This leads to avoidable health complications and contributes to high preventable mortality rates.
DOTOH Health addresses these access gaps through a tech-enabled telehealth platform to deliver telehealth services, eliminating physical and financial barriers. Our platform enables patients to consult with licensed healthcare professionals via voice, video, SMS, and mobile apps, ensuring that even the most isolated communities can access medical services. With over 500 users across Benin and now launching into Senegal, we aim to scale our primary care, reproductive, maternal and child health services, reducing healthcare inequities and improving patient outcomes.
What is your solution?
DOTOH Health is a patient-centered, tech-enabled telehealth platform transforming access to healthcare in underserved African communities. Through mobile apps, voice, SMS, and video technologies, eHealth records management, and GIS, DOTOH briedges the healthcare access gap by connecting patients, especially in remote areas, with verified healthcare providers, ensuring accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for underserved populations.
Our platform offers a holistic healthcare experience, appointment booking, electronic medical records (EMRs), and teleconsultations for health education. We also integrate GIS for patient geolocation of nearby healthcare facilities and pharmacies. Looking forward, we are incorporating AI/ML technologies to enhance diagnostics and deliver personalized care.
By overcoming geographical and economic barriers, DOTOH Health ensures that vulnerable communities in Benin and beyond can receive timely, reliable, and quality medical services, improving health outcomes and reducing preventable mortality. Designed with and for communities, DOTOH embodies equity, dignity, and technological innovation in healthcare, meeting users where they are.
Our telehealth platform has already improved access for marginalized populations, especially women and youth, and aligns with Universal Health Coverage goals and WHO’s Digital Health Strategy (2020–2025). Our mission is simple: democratize healthcare and foster health prosperity for all.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
DOTOH Health primarily serves low-income, underserved populations across Benin, particularly youth (ages 15-29), women, children, and low-income families who face financial and geographical barriers to accessing healthcare. In Benin, nearly 40% of the population lives below the poverty line (World Bank, 2023), and healthcare services are often inaccessible or unaffordable for those in remote regions. These communities often struggle with geographic isolation, financial constraints, and limited healthcare infrastructure, leading to delayed diagnoses and poor health outcomes.
Through our DOTOH telehealth platform, we provide these populations with timely, affordable, and high-quality medical services, through voice, SMS, and video consultations. Patients can access primary care, reproductive health services, maternal and child health consultations from the comfort of their homes, anywhere, at any time, using low-tech or smartphone tools.
DOTOH reduces out-of-pocket costs, minimizes travel burden, and safeguards confidentiality, key for youth and women seeking sexual, reproductive health services. With multilingual content tailored for local communities, early data shows high user satisfaction and improved care-seeking behavior. As we expand to an AI-driven platform, we expect to impact over 500,000 users across 10 African countries by 2030, reducing preventable deaths and improving well-being.
