What specific problem are you solving?
We are addressing the lack of timely, accurate, and accessible maternal and pediatric health information and services in Latin America. This gap contributes to preventable complications during pregnancy and early childhood. Globally, a woman dies every two minutes from pregnancy-related causes—99% in low- and middle-income countries (UNFPA, 2023). In Latin America, maternal mortality has increased 15% since 2016 (PAHO, 2023), and neonatal deaths represent 47% of under-five mortality (UNICEF, 2024). Our target countries: In Colombia, triage 2 wait times can exceed 40 hours (MinSalud, 2022). In Chile, 68% of patients wait up to a year for a specialist (ISS Chile, 2020). Peru has only 42 specialists per 100,000 people (WHO recommends 230). Mexico’s rural areas have up to 15 times fewer health units than urban ones (INEGI, 2024). Though over 70% of people own smartphones, fewer than 10% use trusted health apps (eMarketer, 2024). Misinformation online remains rampant—70% of maternal-child health content is inaccurate (Pediatrics, 2023). Our solution, Dr. Manuel, provides AI-driven triage, evidence-based content, and telemedicine—helping families make informed decisions and access care when and where they need it.
What is your solution?
Dr. Manuel is a digital health platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that helps families access trustworthy medical guidance in real time. It’s designed for pregnant women and parents with children under 12, especially those with limited access to healthcare. Through a smart triage system, Dr. Manuel asks simple questions to assess symptoms. Based on the answers, it offers personalized recommendations—whether it’s home care, a teleconsultation, or visiting an emergency room. The platform securely stores each patient’s medical history and shares it with doctors during teleconsultations. This allows the doctor to quickly understand the case, receive clinical support, and provide more efficient, informed, and personalized care. Dr. Manuel also uses data analysis to detect patterns and anticipate potential health risks. It will send alerts to families and doctors to support early intervention and prevention—helping to catch problems before they escalate. With over 3,500 validated articles and 2,500 videos, the platform offers evidence-based content created with doctors and adapted for each country. It works on mobile, even in low-connectivity areas, and is free to families. Families receive immediate answers. Doctors are supported. Health systems become more efficient. Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Dr. Manuel serves families in Colombia, Peru, Chile, and Mexico—specifically pregnant women and parents of children under 12, representing over 25 million people. Our users are mostly from the middle and lower-middle class, and 85% do not have private health insurance. They rely on public systems that often involve long wait times, especially in emergency rooms, and face difficulties accessing specialists—particularly in remote or underserved regions. These families are digitally connected and highly engaged with their children’s well-being, but they lack affordable, timely, and personalized medical guidance. Dr. Manuel fills this gap by offering an AI-powered virtual doctor that performs intelligent triage, answers health questions based on scientific evidence, and connects users to real doctors via telemedicine when needed. It’s available 24/7, directly from a mobile device. Validated through surveys and analysis of 10,000+ real questions, we found: 85% of families would use Dr. Manuel regularly 80% are willing to use telemedicine 72% would pay for access By bringing reliable, real-time health guidance to those who need it most, Dr. Manuel helps reduce unnecessary ER visits and empowers families to take control of their health.
