What specific problem are you solving?
In Colombia and across Latin America, less than 5% of the rural population has access to distributed renewable energy technologies. This leaves thousands of households dependent on inefficient, expensive conventional systems, and many rural communities remain entirely off the grid (IRENA, 2021). The resulting energy gap leads to significantly higher costs, stifles socio-economic development, and deepens the inequality that fuels urban migration and the rise of informal livelihoods. In Colombia, rural residents comprise 25% of the population, while the percentage climbs to 30% across Latin America. Our solution directly tackles these challenges by addressing the high costs of solar panel implementation and raising critical awareness about solar energy.
What is your solution?
At Voltio, we design and install state-of-the-art photovoltaic systems that empower users to generate their renewable energy. Our solution significantly reduces dependence on the grid while lowering energy costs. We pair our advanced solar installations with a flexible financing model that eliminates upfront costs, allowing customers to pay for their systems using the energy savings they achieve compared to their previous electricity bills. Currently, we are developing smart monitoring systems and remote maintenance features to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability. This innovative approach not only enhances energy independence but also promotes sustainability by cutting down on expensive and polluting conventional energy sources. To date, our model has successfully financed 39 projects worth USD 1 million, demonstrating our proven ability to bring affordable, clean energy to communities.

Our solution is designed specifically for rural communities and SMEs in Colombia and Latin America that face exorbitant energy costs or lack grid access altogether. By providing affordable, renewable energy through solar installations, we are not only reducing financial burdens but also empowering families to achieve energy independence. Rural households will benefit from lower monthly expenses, while local farming associations can improve their productivity and efficiency. With reliable energy, farmers can extend operating hours, preserve perishable goods longer through proper refrigeration, and enhance overall production.
