What specific problem are you solving?
We are addressing the critical issue of unequal access to essential healthcare services in underserved communities of Afghanistan, especially in rural and conflict-affected areas. In these regions, over 60% of the population lacks access to quality health care due to geographic isolation, limited infrastructure, lack of skilled health workers, and financial barriers. This issue is compounded by low health literacy, poor service coordination, and insufficient data systems to track health outcomes. Globally, half the world’s population lacks access to essential healthcare, with approximately 2 billion people facing financial hardship due to out-of-pocket costs (WHO/World Bank, 2023). Our solution directly responds to these challenges by integrating community-based models, digital health tools, and localized service delivery mechanisms to bridge this access gap. By targeting root causes such as poor referral systems, underutilized frontline workers, and lack of digital infrastructure, we aim to create a scalable, tech-enabled model that enhances health equity and resilience for marginalized populations.
What is your solution?
HealthAccess Pro is a community-based digital platform designed to improve access to essential health services in underserved regions. It integrates mobile health technology with local health worker networks to bridge the gap between communities and care providers. Through an easy-to-use mobile app and SMS system, individuals can schedule appointments, receive health education, access teleconsultation services, and track vaccination or medication schedules—all in local languages. The platform also supports health workers with tools to collect data, deliver follow-ups, and coordinate referrals, enhancing both efficiency and accountability. HealthAccess Pro leverages existing mobile infrastructure and does not require smartphones or internet access to function, making it especially effective in rural and low-connectivity areas. By combining digital technology with human-centered service design, HealthAccess Pro strengthens healthcare delivery from the ground up—empowering communities and improving health outcomes.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution, HealthAccess Pro, serves vulnerable and underserved communities in Afghanistan, particularly in rural areas, among internally displaced populations, and marginalized groups such as women and youth. These populations often face critical barriers to accessing quality healthcare due to poverty, insecurity, inadequate infrastructure, and systemic gender inequality. HealthAccess Pro bridges these gaps by delivering community-centered, tech-enabled healthcare services. We train local health facilitators to use digital tools and culturally relevant methods to provide health education, basic screenings, and guided referrals. This decentralized and adaptable model brings care directly to those who need it most—where they are. The solution impacts lives by improving early detection and prevention, reducing health disparities, and empowering communities with knowledge and resources to make informed health decisions. Ultimately, HealthAccess Pro strengthens healthcare access, resilience, and equity in some of the most challenging contexts.
