What specific problem are you solving?
Globally, an estimated two billion people lack access to essential medicines. To fill the gap, NGOs partner with multinational pharmaceutical companies who donate excess stock as part of their CSR programmes. Healthcare companies want to do more to support communities but can be put off by the labour-intensive processes involved and the compliance risks posed. The donation of medicines is highly complex due to regulations surrounding the storage, transportation, and distribution to ensure patient safety and medicine efficacy. Tracking and ensuring compliance throughout is crucial in maintaining the integrity of the humanitarian supply chain, which is otherwise vulnerable to being infiltrated by substandard or falsified medicines. NGOs struggle to meet the demands of compliance as they source, import, and distribute medicines, resulting in wasted time, money and supply disruptions. This complexity has limited the volume of medical donations despite industry support and vast global needs.
What is your solution?
Introducing Boaz, a platform developed by International Health Partners (IHP) to bridge the gap between healthcare companies and humanitarian aid NGOs. Boaz is a SaaS product making it easier to deliver more healthcare products to more people in need. It provides a platform to match medicines directly to needs, all while fulfilling compliance regulations essential for pharmaceutical companies and patients.  Boaz is transforming the medical donation process and filling critical gaps in humanitarian supply chains. Through Boaz, donations of medicines and healthcare products are matched to needs identified by humanitarian NGOs, all while fulfilling essential compliance regulations. Boaz makes managing the complexities of the product donation process easier, enabling the delivery of more healthcare products to more people in need. Boaz provides a platform that can be tailored to any healthcare company's product donation process. It provides a system for managing and recording the end-to-end process of distributing medicines from donation to delivery, manufacturer to patient. Suffering due to a lack of healthcare is a big problem, but it doesn’t need to be. Through the development of Boaz, IHP is helping match the medicines directly to the needs, all while fulfilling compliance regulations essential for pharmaceutical companies and patients.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
The solutions served by Boaz are twofold. Firstly, Boaz empowers corporations to safely donate more products by ensuring Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and the record of necessary regulatory approvals. As a result, more patients can access the quality medicine they need. By improving access to medicine, IHP is alleviating human suffering from a lack of access to healthcare. Boaz directly responds to the needs of in-country humanitarian NGOs by matching donated products from healthcare companies. Through streamlining the donation process, Boaz improves the humanitarian aid supply chain, in-country health systems, and the lives of individuals in underserved communities. Secondly, Boaz offers an environmental impact as stocks of excess products are redistributed to people in need as opposed to being needlessly destroyed. Globally, a significant amount of pharmaceutical products are wasted due to overproduction. Incineration is the typical method for the destruction of this excess product. The carbon impact is not only felt in the production of the medicines but also in its destruction. Boaz offers combined social and carbon positive impact to society globally: excess product is redistributed to people in need; thus minimising the quantity of product destined for destruction.
