What specific problem are you solving?
Over 3.6 billion people globally lack access to safe and sustainable sanitation, with over 450 million still practicing open defecation (WHO/UNICEF, 2023). This leads to widespread disease, environmental degradation, and significant water wastage. In India, more than 160 million people lack toilet access, while traditional systems consume 6–9 liters per flush—an unsustainable burden in water-scarce areas. The root problems include lack of infrastructure, clean water scarcity, costly installations, and ineffective sewage systems. In rural, low-income, and disaster-affected communities, conventional toilets are often impractical due to high maintenance and resource needs. Urban slums also face poor waste management, increasing public health risks. ECOLOO offers a sustainable, waterless, and electricity-free toilet solution that biologically converts waste into odor-free fertilizer. Our system reduces water usage by 95%, requires no sewage connection, and operates off-grid, making it ideal for underserved areas. By transforming human waste into a resource, ECOLOO supports UN SDGs 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 3 (Good Health and Well-being), and 13 (Climate Action), while delivering scalable, dignified sanitation globally and locally.
What is your solution?
The ECOLOO Toilet is a sustainable, waterless, and electricity-free sanitation solution that transforms human waste into odor-free, organic liquid fertilizer—without relying on sewage systems, septic tanks, or external energy. Designed for simplicity and resilience, it’s a stand-alone, off-grid system ideal for areas lacking reliable infrastructure. Using a patented biological treatment process, ECOLOO separates solid and liquid waste, where a special mix of beneficial bacteria naturally decomposes and sanitizes the waste—completely chemical-free and odorless. The treated liquid is collected in a lower chamber and converted into a nutrient-rich fertilizer through natural nitrification, supporting circular agriculture. Installation is quick and hassle-free, requiring no digging, piping, or power supply. This makes ECOLOO especially effective in rural villages, remote schools, urban slums, disaster zones, refugee camps, and other underserved or climate-vulnerable areas. It helps reduce water usage by 95–100% compared to conventional flush toilets, making it highly valuable in water-scarce regions. ECOLOO not only addresses the urgent need for dignified sanitation but also contributes to food security, public health, and environmental protection. By turning waste into a resource, it empowers communities, supports sustainable development, and delivers real impact where it’s needed most. Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
ECOLOO serves underserved populations who lack access to safe, reliable sanitation—especially those in rural villages, urban slums, disaster zones, refugee camps, off-grid schools, and climate-vulnerable areas. These communities often face poor sanitation infrastructure, limited access to clean water, and high rates of open defecation, leading to health risks, water contamination, and loss of dignity—particularly for women and girls. In schools, the lack of toilets disproportionately affects female students, contributing to absenteeism and dropout rates. In remote areas, traditional toilets are not feasible due to high installation, maintenance, and water requirements. During disasters or in refugee camps, sanitation becomes a critical health and safety concern. ECOLOO directly addresses these challenges by offering a decentralized, waterless, electricity-free toilet system that is easy to install, operate, and maintain. It requires no sewage connection, saves up to 100% water, and biologically treats waste on-site, converting it into safe fertilizer. This solution restores dignity, improves hygiene, and promotes health while reducing environmental impact. It empowers communities through better sanitation access, enhances school attendance for girls, and supports local agriculture—creating a sustainable cycle that lifts lives and protects public health.
