What specific problem are you solving?
India’s 2.4 million hectares of freshwater aquaculture—part of 7 million hectares of total freshwater bodies—are facing accelerating ecological decline due to climate change, poor water quality, and severe data and monitoring gaps. This has rendered 90% of India’s fish production biologically unsustainable, resulting in $2–3 billion in annual losses and rising public health costs.
Over four years, our work across seven freshwater landscapes with 1,500+ fish farmers—including 200 women—has revealed a recurring pattern: water instability leads to income losses of up to $16,000 per hectare annually. With no access to timely, site-specific water insights, farmers resort to unsustainable practices, further degrading ecosystems and pushing them into debt cycles.
Despite being a $45 billion industry, freshwater fisheries in India lack affordable, scalable, and context-appropriate water intelligence tools. At the same time, water managers—from municipalities to restoration agencies—face decision paralysis due to the high cost and complexity of existing monitoring systems, and absence of holistic waterscape-level data.
Nearly 2 million lives are lost each year globally to water-related risks. With 15 million Indians dependent on freshwater fisheries for food and livelihood, solving the water crisis through real-time, accessible water intelligence is not just urgent—it’s transformative.
What is your solution?
AquaNurch Digital Twin: AI for Fisheries and Water Systems
AquaNurch is a plug-and-play product-service hybrid designed to build the World’s Biggest Real-time Water Data & Solution Factory. Each AquaNurch unit acts as a neural node, capturing real-time water-ecosystem data, integrating AI and ensemble hydrological models to track ecological and human-induced stressors. The AquaNurch Digital Twin Suite for Fisheries includes a mobile app and hardware sensor unit to capture data on water and fish health every five minutes from surface to depth, enabling risk detection and response.
By providing timely water-health insights we arrested >40% of fish mortality incidences for 60% of our users and 100% reported reduction in fish-loss. Improving income generation has led to a 25% cost reduction in operations and a 20% reduction in feed expenses. The same technology has de-risked 7,000 hectares of water bodies for utilities, boosting operational efficiency by 35% and securing clean water supply to 11 million people.
AquaNurch’s proprietary AI-engine processes millions of data points across biodiversity, hydrology, climate, and geospatial parameters. It informs fishers, utilities, and restoration managers with predictive, actionable insights—scaling from micro ponds to large waterscapes—catalyzing resilience, reducing vulnerability, and enhancing sustainable production across freshwater and marine systems.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
AquaNurch will be tackling the pain-points of 15 million inland fishfarmers and 2.5 million hectares of water-bodies in India. Presently it impact lives of 4200 Fish Farmers and 25000 Ha of water bodies in India, USA, Pacific Island, Philippines and Australia
