What specific problem are you solving?
People with Parkinson’s Disease (PwPD) often face Freezing of Gait (FoG), an invisible yet debilitating symptom that disrupts walking and increases risk of falls, injury, and loss of independence. Globally, over 10 million people live with Parkinson’s, with more than 60% experiencing FoG at some point in their condition. In India alone, Parkinson’s prevalence is rapidly rising due to an aging population, but access to continuous, specialized care is severely limited especially in non-urban areas.
While physiotherapy and medications offer partial relief, they fail to deliver real-time support in daily environments. Poor mobility results in isolation, poor mental health, and high caregiver burden. The lack of scalable, affordable, real-world mobility interventions leaves millions struggling to perform basic activities.
Moreover, existing systems are not designed to ethically collect, process, or act on real-world gait data limiting clinical understanding and progress. There is a pressing need for a solution that offers both functional support and actionable insight into patient health—outside the hospital in homes and other real world settings.
What is your solution?
WALK is a wearable, AI-powered mobility aid that helps people with Parkinson’s Disease overcome Freezing of Gait (FoG) and regain control of their movement in real time.
The device uses smart sensors to detect early gait irregularities and deploys context-aware, multisensory stimuli to enable smoother walking. These stimuli are personalized through adaptive AI algorithms that learn the user’s unique gait patterns and environmental triggers, making the intervention smarter and adaptive over time.
Unlike existing tools that only track symptoms or require manual activation, WALK offers real-time autonomous intervention, allowing users to walk confidently without constantly relying on caregivers. The device also logs rich gait data securely, offering clinicians deep insights into patient mobility in everyday settings.
Built for clinical-grade reliability but designed with consumer simplicity, WALK bridges the gap between the clinic and real life turning every step into a step forward.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
WALK primarily serves people with Parkinson’s Disease (PwPD) especially those affected by Freezing of Gait, a debilitating symptom that leads to falls, fractures and loss of independence.
Globally, over 6 million PwPD live in low- and middle-income regions, where access to continuous physical therapy or neurologist care is limited. In India, this underserved population is growing, with many relying on ageing spouses/family members as caregivers and facing social isolation due to mobility challenges.
WALK empowers users by providing real-time, wearable support that reduces falls and restores walking confidence. It enables safer, more independent mobility, reducing reliance on caregivers and improving mental well-being. For family members and clinicians, the device offers meaningful, real-world gait data to tailor treatment.
In the long term, WALK aims to shift Parkinson’s care from reactive to proactive and data-driven. By returning agency to the user, WALK doesn’t just help people move, it helps them live better.
