Theracuity addresses the critical burden of mental health documentation and support gaps in underserved urban communities where care access and therapist capacity are severely limited. Behavioral health providers face overwhelming administrative workloads, especially with progress notes and assessments, which contributes to burnout and reduces the quality of care. At the same time, patients in these communities suffer from culturally misaligned services, underdiagnosis, and inconsistent therapeutic continuity. Globally, the World Health Organization reports that one in eight people, or approximately 970 million individuals, live with a mental disorder (WHO). In the United States, more than 160 million people reside in designated Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas, with urban inner-city communities disproportionately impacted (NAMI). Research shows that therapists in high-demand regions can spend up to 35 percent of their workday on documentation rather than direct care (NIH). Theracuity integrates AI to support providers during sessions with real-time transcription, culturally aware smart prompts, and automated documentation while enhancing patient insights and therapeutic engagement. By reducing administrative burden and increasing culturally intelligent care, Theracuity addresses both workforce burnout and access disparity.
What is your solution?
Theracuity is an AI-powered behavioral healthcare platform that helps therapists spend less time on paperwork and more time on patient care. It offers real-time support during therapy sessions, automatically generating structured notes, assessments, and progress summaries using speech recognition and natural language processing. The platform works in both in-person and telehealth settings. As a therapist speaks with a patient, Theracuity’s AI listens, transcribes, and intelligently identifies key clinical insights. It suggests follow-up questions based on prior sessions, provides culturally relevant cues, and drafts compliant documentation in real time. This dramatically reduces the time therapists spend writing notes after sessions and ensures more accurate, timely records. Theracuity uses a combination of AWS-based services and AI large language models for transcription, analysis, and summarization. The system is HIPAA-ready and built for behavioral health practices, with a focus on urban underserved populations. Theracuity also includes a provider dashboard for managing appointments, reviewing AI-generated documentation, and tracking outcomes over time. A companion mobile app for patients will offer journaling, reminders, and check-ins to extend care between visits.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Theracuity primarily serves behavioral health providers and the underserved patients they care for, especially in urban communities facing mental health professional shortages. Our main users are therapists, counselors, case managers, and clinical staff who are overwhelmed by high caseloads and time-consuming documentation requirements. These professionals often experience burnout, limiting their ability to provide consistent, high-quality care. The secondary beneficiaries are patients, primarily from low-income, Black, Latino, and immigrant communities, who often face barriers to culturally competent mental health care. Many feel misunderstood or stigmatized in traditional healthcare settings, leading to poor engagement and follow-through with treatment. Theracuity improves the lives of both groups by removing one of the biggest pain points in behavioral healthcare: clinical documentation. By using AI to assist with note-taking, insights, and care summaries during sessions, we give providers more time to focus on patients. Patients benefit from better continuity of care, culturally aware interactions, and a stronger therapeutic alliance. In the long term, our solution aims to increase therapist retention, improve treatment outcomes, and reduce disparities in mental healthcare access and quality in vulnerable communities. Theracuity is a tool for healing -- not just for individuals, but for overburdened systems that desperately need relief.
