What specific problem are you solving?
More than one in six children globally lives in areas affected by conflict. Education has been severely disrupted in these conflict zones for almost 500 million children. Afghanistan, where Faved operates, is one such example. In emergencies, education becomes life-sustaining. It gives hope to students and families, empowers children, and carves pathways to a better future, both short-term and long-term. Education helps people survive crises, rebuild their lives, thrive in the aftermath, and contribute to a more sustainable world. Yet the continuation and quality of education in conflict zones often rest on individual teachers' shoulders. Conflicts dramatically increase the demands placed on educators. It takes extraordinary creativity and perseverance to keep teaching in challenging conditions. Many teachers in conflict-affected areas are extremely resilient, but working in challenging conditions can lead to feelings of isolation and burnout.
What is your solution?
Student wellbeing begins with teacher wellbeing, also in emergencies. Faved is a digital platform that provides an opportunity for professional development, a community and an endless well of proven practices for teachers to thrive in challenging conditions. It solves two problems: 1) It gives teachers opportunities for professional development and learning when they are needed the most 2) It reduces feelings of isolation among educators working in conflict areas: It gives teachers an opportunity to connect and get recognition by their peers.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
In conflict areas, parents and children consistently cite education as a top priority. When children keep on receiving education, entire communities benefit. Our solution helps teachers stay motivated and provide quality education in conflict-affected areas. Ensuring that teachers can develop their skills and get ideas and support on how to continue providing quality education in situations where infrastructure may be lacking has a direct impact on learners and their wider community. On Faved, we intentionally choose to focus on small, easy-to-implement classroom solutions and provide hyper-practical resources for teacher professional development in bite-sized content. Faved is designed for environments where committing to a longer course might be impossible.
