What specific problem are you solving?
Ghana is not so different from many other developing countries. We face a significant mismatch between the skills young people have and those demanded by our job market and the global market at large, especially in the digital, creative, and artificial intelligence sectors. Artificially Intelligence is disrupting industries and the labor market but many Ghanaian are not aware of the full potential of this technology. According to the World Bank, Ghana’s youth unemployment rate was over 12% in 2023, with underemployment exceeding 50% in some regions. Globally, the World Economic Forum estimates that by 2030, over 1 billion people will need to reskill due to the impact of automation and Artificial Intelligence. In the communities Mobile Web Ghana operates, especially in peri-urban and underserved areas, access to practical, future-focused skills training remains limited or non existence. Many young people complete school without acquiring market-relevant competencies and skills, leaving them unprepared for present employment or entrepreneurship opportunities. This skills gap disproportionately affects youth and women, contributing largely to poverty, inequality, and digital exclusion.
What is your solution?
The Ghana SkillUp: Future Jobs is a build up on the Ghana Digitour Project that practically provides capacity building and mentorship program that equips youth, entrepreneurs and women between the ages of 18 to 35 years with the digital, creative, and AI skills they need to succeed in today’s job market. This project also focuses on training teachers in underprivileged communities and NGO to use simple tech tools to We run practical and use case based workshops, and hands-on projects where participants learn skills like graphic design, digital marketing, website development, content creation, and AI tools. The training is delivered through a mix of in-person bootcamps, hackathons, and mentorship from a pool of industry experts that we already work with in Ghana and the world at large. Our program uses accessible technology such as Canva -(Canva has released a whole suite of powerful resources for everyone), Google Workspace, low-code/no-code platforms, and AI tools like ChatGPT and Zapier . We focus on real-world skills, allowing learners to build community solutions. We also work with organization and companies within our networks to provide job and mentorship opportunities to graduates from our training program.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Ghana SkillUp for Future Job's main target population is young people between the ages 18–35 in underserved communities across Ghana, with a strong focus on young women, school leavers, and unemployed graduates. These individuals often face huge barriers to economic opportunity due to limited access to digital skills education, and exposure expert mentorship. The program will also benefit 500 NGOs and teachers in peri-urban areas. Many of them have completed formal education but lack the digital, creative, or entrepreneurial skills needed to thrive in today’s technology-driven economy. Others have dropped out of school due to financial constraints or early responsibilities and now struggle to find employment or start any businesses. In rural and peri-urban areas especially, digital literacy is low, and opportunities for upskilling are scarce or unaffordable. Women are further underserved due to cultural norms, caregiving roles, and limited representation in tech and creative industries. Ghana SkillUp: Future Jobs is offering practical, accessible training in in-demand digital and AI skills for young people and creating inclusive learning opportunities and environment for women and marginalized youth. By empowering this population with relevant skills and support, we aim to unlock new pathways to employment, entrepreneurship, and long-term economic independence.
