What specific problem are you solving?
Substandard and falsified (SSF) antibiotics are a critical threat to public health in Kenya, leading to treatment failures, increased antimicrobial resistance, and preventable deaths. At Pawanax AI, we are tackling this challenge by deploying AI-powered solutions to detect and prevent SSF antibiotics from reaching Kenyan communities. Studies indicate that up to 30% of antibiotics in Kenya are substandard or falsified, impacting millions, especially children.
My approach focuses on three key areas:
AI-Powered Packaging Forensics: We analyze packaging images to identify subtle signs of counterfeiting, undetectable to the human eye.
"Digital Microscope" for Content Analysis: We analyze images of pills and capsules to detect falsified medications, ensuring the correct ingredients and dosages.
Document Analysis for Supply Chain Integrity: We analyze supply chain documents, like invoices and manifests, to identify anomalies and potential fraud, flagging suspicious activity.
These solutions address critical factors contributing to the problem: complex supply chains, limited regulatory capacity, and sophisticated counterfeiting techniques. By leveraging AI, we empower Kenyan regulators, healthcare providers, and citizens to identify and prevent SSF antibiotics from entering the market. Our work will improve access to quality medicines, protect public health, and combat antimicrobial resistance in Kenya.
What is your solution?
Pawanax AI is your multi-agent AI detective fighting fake antibiotics in Kenya! We use three key tools to protect communities:
First, with Packaging Check, users upload a photo of an antibiotic box, and we use computer vision to spot tiny differences that reveal counterfeits. It's like having a magnifying glass that sees what the human eye misses!
Second, with Pill Inspection, users upload a photo of a pill or capsule, and I analyze its size, shape, color, and texture, ensuring it matches the real thing. Think of it as a digital microscope for medicines!
Third, with Supply Chain Tracker, user upload files, we read through invoices and shipping records, flagging suspicious activity like unusually large orders or inconsistent serial numbers.
We do all of this on a simple web app, so anyone can quickly check if their medicine is safe. And because its AI, it constantly learns and improves, becoming even better at spotting fakes over time!

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Pawanax AI protects vulnerable Kenyans from fake antibiotics, focusing on low-income communities (mwananchi), healthcare providers, and pharmacists. Mwananchi often lack access to quality healthcare and are susceptible to fake drugs in informal markets. We empower them to verify medicine authenticity via a simple phone app, reducing risks of treatment failure and resistance.
Healthcare providers gain a reliable tool to identify SSF antibiotics, enabling informed treatment decisions and protecting patients. Pharmacists can ensure inventory quality, preventing the sale of fake drugs and safeguarding their reputation.
Currently underserved due to limited access to affordable detection methods, We offer a cost-effective, user-friendly solution. This empowers individuals and professionals to take control of their health, fostering a more equitable healthcare system where everyone has access to safe, effective medicines.
