What specific problem are you solving?
Gender-based violence (GBV) is one of the most widespread human rights and public health issues globally. In Mexico, over 70% of women aged 15 and older have experienced some form of violence (INEGI). GBV exists on a continuum, from psychological harm to life-threatening physical abuse, and deeply affects mental and physical health of individuals and communities.
The neuropsychological and psychosocial consequences of violence are deep, ranging from anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress to difficulties with emotional regulation, self-esteem, and forming healthy relationships. GBV is a leading cause of trauma among women and girls, increasing the risk of chronic illness and long-term emotional distress.
Despite its prevalence, violence is normalized, and access to mental health care in Mexico remains limited, expensive, and heavily stigmatized. This prevents many people from identifying what they’ve experienced as violence or seeking the help they need. Without recognition or timely support, emotional and physical symptoms often go untreated, worsening outcomes for individuals and perpetuating cycles of violence in their communities.
What is your solution?
Violetta prevents gender-based violence (GBV) by helping people build healthy relationships through innovative tools powered by technology. We envision a world where everyone has immediate access to resources to foster relationships free from violence and to receive adequate care.
Our solution integrates four key services:
1. Violetta Chatbot on WhatsApp
Automated chatbot that offers social-emotional education through simple, conversational language. Users learn to identify red flags, understand emotions, and reflect on healthy relationships through a safe, confidential space. When risks are detected, users are referred to professional help.
2. Violetta AI on Web
Chatbot using generative AI (LLM) for deeper, personalized conversations. Trained with a gender perspective, human rights approach, trauma-sensitive content, and ethical safety protocols that prioritize user well-being. It recognizes when its own limitations require escalation and guides users toward professional care.
3. Violetta Helpline
In partnership with Fundación Origen, this free helpline offers trauma-informed psychological support from a team of 27 clinical psychologists, available 24/7 via phone or text.
4. Workshops
We complement our digital tools with workshops that promote reflection, education, and behavior change, helping participants identify harmful relationship dynamics, challenge social norms, and develop new tools for emotional well-being.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Violetta targets women ages 18–35 from C- and C socio-economic backgrounds in urban areas marked by insecurity, overcrowding, and limited access to education, jobs, and mobility. Many have experienced violence and seek to improve their lives and health but face economic, social, and systemic barriers to mental health services that meet their needs. This gap delays recognition and treatment of emotional distress and other effects of violence, harming long-term health and relationship quality. Violetta bridges this gap by helping users understand their experiences, manage their well-being, and take informed steps toward healthier relationships. We’ve identified three primary user groups:
Individuals exploring new relationships and looking for information. Violetta serves as a psychoeducational tool, helping them recognize healthy and unhealthy dynamics, build self-awareness, and make informed decisions that support their mental and emotional well-being.
Individuals facing specific challenges such as coping with anxiety or stress, or navigating issues related to sexuality. Violetta functions as a support system, offering guidance, emotional regulation tools, and strategies to help them care for their health in real time.
Individuals experiencing violence. They may face emotional distress and physical risk. Violetta helps them understand their situation and, when needed, connects them directly to professional support.
