What specific problem are you solving?
In Liberia, over 70% of rural children are out of school or attend under-resourced, poorly equipped classrooms. The problem is more severe in post-conflict areas like Lofa County, where generational poverty, lack of trained teachers, and absence of early learning foundations create systemic barriers to education. Children in these areas are more likely to repeat grades, drop out, or remain functionally illiterate despite years of schooling.
What is your solution?
Rebuild Africa is launching the Village Learning and Nurturing Center (VLNC) 2.0, a tech-enabled early learning and foundational literacy platform that integrates: - Offline-first digital learning tools (solar-powered tablets loaded with local language and phonics-based content). - Community-based teacher training via micro-courses and AI simulations. - Parent engagement modules with audio-based learning prompts via mobile phones. - AI-guided lesson planning tools for teachers using local materials. This hybrid model blends community ownership, low-tech innovation, and child-centered pedagogy to address Liberia’s learning poverty.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Target Population Our solution serves rural children in Liberia, particularly in post-conflict areas like Lofa County, who lack access to quality education due to poorly equipped classrooms and untrained teachers. Impact The Village Learning and Nurturing Center (VLNC) 2.0 will improve the lives of these children by providing: - Tech-enabled early learning and foundational literacy tools - Trained facilitators delivering high-quality education - Engaged parents supporting their children's learning By addressing learning poverty, VLNC 2.0 will empower children to acquire essential literacy skills, reducing grade repetition, dropout, and functional illiteracy. This will unlock their potential, enabling them to break the cycle of poverty and contribute to their communities' socio-economic development. By serving 3,000 children and 30 facilitators across 10 underserved villages, we aim to create a sustainable and scalable model that can transform Liberia's education landscape.
