What specific problem are you solving?
Many children in Sub-Saharan Africa don’t get the chance to learn about their emotions because schools focus mostly on academics like math, reading, and writing. But understanding emotions is just as important. Without this kind of learning, many kids grow up not knowing how to talk about their feelings or handle difficult emotions. This can lead to anxiety, depression, and feeling alone. Sadly, about 14.3% of children face serious emotional struggles, but only a few ever get the help they need. Parents often feel lost too. They want to support their children but don’t always know how. Many don’t have access to the right tools, guidance, or resources to help their kids open up or feel better emotionally.
What is your solution?
We have developed an AI-powered platform to support the emotional and social development of children through personalized learning. Beemo uses emotion detection models to understand how children feel and responds through an interactive chatbot that holds thoughtful conversations with children, helping them explore and express their emotions. Alongside the chatbot, Beemo offers features like storytelling and games to support emotional growth. These tools help kids understand emotions, build empathy, and feel more confident. Beemo’s models are built using natural language processing and computer vision, and are continuously improved based on real-world interaction data to adapt to each child’s needs.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution is aimed at African children aged between 5 and 12 years old. Many of these children don’t get enough support when it comes to understanding their emotions. Schools focus mostly on academic subjects, and emotional learning is often left out. As a result, many children struggle with feelings like anxiety, depression, and loneliness.
Beemo aims to change this by helping children learn how to understand and manage their emotions, build confidence, and develop empathy. Children who develop strong emotional and cognitive skills are more likely to become successful, resilient individuals. This not only benefits their personal growth but also plays a key role in enhancing the quality of life across Africa. By supporting emotional growth early, we’re not just helping children, we’re investing in Africa’s future. Emotionally strong children grow into adults who can lead with empathy, build healthier relationships, and contribute to a more stable, productive, and peaceful society. Our goal is to help at least 1 million children become emotionally aware and better prepared for a successful future.
