Individuals with hearing disabilities often face significant barriers in accessing equitable and high-quality education due to their reliance on sign language interpreters and the lack of inclusive learning tools. In Indonesia alone, more than 22.5 million people experience hearing impairments, with thousands of students struggling to follow spoken content in classrooms. Globally, over 430 million people suffer from disabling hearing loss, and this number is projected to rise to 700 million by 2050 (WHO). Traditional education systems typically do not provide the necessary support, resulting in limited academic performance, low confidence, and social exclusion for deaf students. Many classrooms lack the infrastructure or trained personnel to support real-time translation or interactive communication. Contributing factors include low awareness of inclusive technologies, limited funding for accessibility tools, and insufficient policies that mandate inclusive education. Our solution, AiCCESS, directly addresses these challenges by leveraging AI to provide real-time speech-to-text conversion and enhanced communication features. This helps bridge the accessibility gap, empowers deaf students to learn independently, and supports teachers in fostering a more inclusive educational environment.

AiCCESS is an AI-powered mobile and web-based application designed to enhance education accessibility for individuals with hearing impairments. It provides two key features: Ai-Speech and Ai-Write. Ai-Speech uses real-time speech recognition and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to convert spoken language—both in Indonesian and English—into accurate, readable text on-screen. This enables deaf or hard-of-hearing users to follow spoken content in classrooms, discussions, or public lectures independently, without relying on sign language interpreters. Ai-Write empowers users to structure and improve written communication. It allows users to input text and receive suggestions for clearer sentence structure, grammar corrections, highlighted key points, and optional voice output for inclusion. The app is built using AI technologies such as Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), real-time processing algorithms, and NLP, offering seamless, user-friendly interaction. AiCCESS is accessible, adaptable to various educational settings, and designed with inclusivity at its core—helping bridge the communication gap and supporting equal learning opportunities for all.

AiCCESS is designed to directly serve individuals with hearing impairments, particularly students in educational settings who face barriers to understanding spoken content. This includes deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in Indonesia—where over 22.5 million people are affected—and across other regions where access to inclusive education is limited. Currently, many of these individuals are underserved due to a lack of real-time support tools in classrooms, limited availability of sign language interpreters, and inadequate educational resources tailored to their needs. These barriers often lead to reduced academic engagement, lower confidence, and restricted career opportunities. AiCCESS empowers them by offering real-time speech-to-text conversion and smart writing tools, enabling independent access to spoken information and improving communication in learning environments. This fosters greater participation in class, enhances comprehension, and promotes inclusivity. Beyond the classroom, AiCCESS can also support daily communication, social inclusion, and lifelong learning—ultimately improving users' educational and personal outcomes, and contributing to a more inclusive society.
