What specific problem are you solving?
Across Africa, more than 600 million small farmers grow the majority of the continent’s food, but less than 3% can get a loan from a bank. Most don’t have paperwork, credit history, or land titles, so banks won’t lend to them.
Because of this, farmers can’t afford good seeds, fertilizer, or storage. They grow less, earn less, and stay stuck. This problem affects millions of families and costs the continent over $75 billion a year in missed financial support.
We’re solving this by helping banks and co-ops better understand and support these farmers. UfarmX creates a digital profile for each farmer using location, harvest history, and other local data, and gives banks tools to decide who is ready for credit, even if they’ve never had a formal loan before.
By helping farmers get the tools they need to grow more and earn more, we’re making rural communities stronger and helping close a major financial gap.
What is your solution?
UfarmX is a digital platform that helps small farmers get access to credit, farm inputs like seeds and fertilizer, and better markets to sell their crops. Most of these farmers don’t have bank accounts, credit history, or formal records. UfarmX gives them a way to be seen, scored, and supported.
Local agents use our mobile app to collect information from farmers—location, farm size, crop history, and other details. Our system uses this data to create a farmer profile and run a “credit score” using our own patented algorithm. This tells us who is likely to repay a loan.
We don’t give out cash. Instead, we connect farmers to trusted partners who provide inputs on credit. Farmers repay after harvest. Banks, cooperatives, and agribusinesses can also use our tools through a simple API or dashboard to manage loans and monitor farmer performance.
We’ve already onboarded over 7,000 farmers across three countries and helped generate over $3.5 million in economic activity.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
UfarmX serves smallholder farmers in rural Africa who are often overlooked by banks and lack access to credit, quality farm inputs, and stable markets. Most have no formal records or collateral, which keeps them out of the financial system.
We help farmers get the tools they need to grow more and earn more by creating digital profiles, scoring their creditworthiness using local data, and connecting them to trusted input suppliers and buyers.
We also serve banks, cooperatives, and agribusinesses by giving them the data to safely lend to farmers and manage rural portfolios. With UfarmX, institutions can make better decisions, reduce risk, and reach more farmers efficiently.
Our solution creates value for both sides—farmers gain access, and institutions gain a way to serve them at scale.
