What specific problem are you solving?
Rearvora is tackling three pressing global issues: the mismanagement of organic waste, plastic pollution from personal care products, and the health risks caused by harmful chemicals. Each year, over 1.3 billion tons of organic waste are generated globally, much of which is improperly treated. In Mexico, over 20 million tons of organic waste are produced annually, with less than 5% being properly treated or repurposed. In tourist destinations, this waste is often discarded irresponsibly, contributing to environmental degradation. The tourism sector generates significant organic waste, especially from hotels, restaurants, and resorts, which is often sent to landfills, causing methane emissions, soil contamination, and water pollution. This impacts touristic ecosystems, such as beaches, forests, and coastal areas, which are vital to local economies. Communities relying on tourism are directly affected by the degradation of these ecosystems. Simultaneously, the personal care industry is responsible for generating over 120 billion units of plastic packaging annually, much of which ends up in oceans and landfills, especially in high-traffic tourist areas. In Mexico, this contributes to the growing pollution problem, particularly along the coastline. Furthermore, traditional personal care products often contain harmful chemicals linked to serious health issues, including cancer, hormonal imbalances, and allergies.
What is your solution?
Rearvora is a circular biotech solution that transforms organic waste into sustainable personal care products for the tourism industry, eliminating waste, reducing plastic pollution, and protecting human health. Green and Clean Beauty: We use biotechnological processes and circular economy principles to upcycle organic waste; mainly fruit peels, flowers, cereals, eggshells, and used cooking oil into high-quality, chemical-free personal care products (amenities) like soap, shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, deodorant, lotion, toothpaste, shaving cream, and more. These subproducts still contain bioactive compounds rich in nutrients and benefits for the skin and body. At Rearvora, we believe that true beauty blooms from nature. We also design eco-conscious packaging using rice and seed paper, recycled and compostable cardboard, and refillable aluminum tins soon to be replaced by our biomaterial made from nopal waste. We also recover plastic from used personal care bottles. Our amenity kits come in upcycled raw denim bags with vegan leather made from corn and wheat. Rearvora merges biotechnology, sustainability, and innovation to transform the problem of linear consumption into circular opportunities to revalue nature in our lives.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Rearvora primarily impacts the tourism sector, where personal care amenities are consumed in large quantities and discarded quickly. This industry is one of the largest contributors to organic waste and plastic pollution, harming ecosystems, water, and human health. We address this by providing sustainable, circular solutions that help hotels, restaurants, and food services manage their organic waste more responsibly. Through our approach, we enable businesses to obtain important environmental certifications, such as Socially Responsible Business (ESR) and Eco-Certifications, demonstrating their commitment to sustainability. We also offer workshops and educational programs to guide these businesses in implementing circular practices, fostering a culture of sustainability and waste reduction. In addition, we serve eco-conscious travelers and individuals who want to adopt more sustainable personal care routines. We offer them the opportunity to collect their organic household waste, promoting the importance of waste separation and upcycling. Through this process, they see firsthand how waste can be transformed into valuable resources, benefiting both their routines and the environment. Finally, we support companies by offering organic waste collection services and providing Rearvora products for corporate events, merchandising, and personalized gifts. This helps companies integrate sustainability into their operations, while also contributing to a circular economy.
